Bradken to Supply Castings for California Transit Center San Francisco’s Transbay Joint Powers


Authority (TJPA) has selected Bradken Inc., Kansas City, Mo., as the supplier of 304 steel castings made up of 75 unique geometries totaling approximately 3.3 million lbs. T e castings, for the construc- tion of a regional transportation hub, range in size from 3,600 lbs. to more than 46,000 lbs. T e contract will be manu- factured and managed by the company’s U.S.-based Industrial Products Business. “T e Transbay Transit Center Project


is a visionary transportation and housing project that transforms downtown San Francisco and the San Francisco Bay Area’s regional transportation system by creating a ‘Grand Central Station of the West’ in the heart of a new transit- friendly neighborhood,” said Wayne Braun, business development director, Bradken Industrial Products. T e $4 billion project will replace the


current Transbay Terminal at First and Mission streets in San Francisco with a modern regional transit hub connecting eight Bay Area counties and the State of California through 11 transit systems: AC Transit, BART, Caltrain, Golden Gate Transit, Greyhound, Muni, Sam- Trans, WestCAT Lynx, Amtrak, Para- transit and a future high speed rail from San Francisco to Los Angeles/Anaheim. Bradken supplies cast iron and steel


products globally for the mining and construction, rail and transit, energy and general industrial markets. Its Industrial Products Business manufactures castings that range from 200 to 55,000 lbs. (90 to 25,000kg) in low and high alloy steels, stainless and wear resistant grades, sup- ported by engineering, pattern construc- tion, solidifi cation modeling, machining and sub-assembly services. 


The fi ve-level transit center will serve bus and rail and will have a 5.4-acre rooftop park.

Spartan Light Metal Products Earns Three Honda Honors At its annual supplier conference,


Honda recognized Spartan Light Metal Products, St. Louis, a supplier of aluminum and magnesium custom die castings and assemblies, with three awards. Spartan received the Excel- lence in Delivery Performance Award for the entire company and the Chal- lenging Spirit Award for its Sparta,


Ill., and Mexico, Mo. plants. Spartan has three manufacturing facilities and offi ces in St. Louis, Detroit, Tokyo and Landstuhl, Germany. As Honda’s North American opera-


tions manufactured a record 1.7 million automobiles in 2012, it proved to be a diffi cult year to meet delivery require- ments. Spartan partnered with Honda


and competitors to ensure Honda’s delivery requirements were met. Honda’s original equipment


manufacturer (OEM) suppliers pro- vide parts to 14 Honda manufacturing plants in North America for the pro- duction of Honda and Acura automo- biles, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and other utility products. 
