Casting Management

Software enhances operations and allows critical shop-floor data to be shared between production zones and management. BY DENISE KAPEL, SENIOR EDITOR

t takes skilled workers using up-to-date equipment to run the most efficient casting

operations. Software is a key compo- nent in these shops, enabling opti- mal performance in each production zone, collecting data for manage-

ment as well as linking one zone to the next. Numerous metrics can be tracked digitally to aid managers in controlling costs and scheduling, enable quality and other certifica- tions, and communicate job data to customers.

Many metalcasting equipment

vendors offer software-based man- agement systems. For both ferrous and nonferrous facilities, these can enable data logging, trending and report generation along with manag- ing operations and process control.

Shop-floor monitors keep workers at Bremen Castings informed of standard work instructions and can alert them to additional information. 24 | MODERN CASTING September 2013
