New distribution deal signed in Qatar
STORAGE SOLUTIONS MANU- FACTURER RediRack has signed a distribution agreement with Qatar-based Darwish Trading Company.

SafeLOGIC-X from B&R now brings all the advantages of integrated safety tech- nology to small, cost sensitive applica- tions. This solution covers everything from safe I/O and drive technology to in- tegrated diagnostics, safe line integration and safe machine options. The SafeLOGIC-X solution is pro- grammed using the SafeDESIGNER edi-
steel structures across Qatar and elsewhere in the Gulf region. Andrew Forsythe, chief executive officer of RediRack’s parent group, RediGroup, commented, “We are delighted to be working with Darwish Trading. RediRack has been one of the UK and Europe’s most popular storage systems manu- facturers and suppliers for almost 40 years and our agreement with Darwish will enable us to bring the RediRack product offering to the expanding market in Qatar and the rest of the Gulf region. It is an exciting opportunity for ourselves and Darwish.” Mahmoud Basri from Darwish added, “The infrastructure and logistics sectors within Qatar are placed to witness impressive growth in the next decade and we expect to be able to capitalise on this growth with the RediGroup range of products and specifically pallet racking and mezzanine floors. We believe that this agreement will be hugely beneficial for RediGroup and Darwish.”

tor in Automation Studio, just like the hardware-based SafeLOGIC solution. This means that when a system outgrows its SafeLOGIC-X solution, it is no trouble at all to switch to a dedicated SafeLOGIC controller. The safety applications can be scaled and configured to meet the requirements of systems of any size. SafeLOGIC-X is solely a software-based solution. Whereas safety functions are distributed across existing hardware components on the network, the safety ap- plication itself runs on a safe input module. All parameter and configuration management is handled on the standard controller. Safe user interface functionality is even handled by the visualisation device. SafeLOGIC-X can be implemented on every single Automation PC, Panel PC, Power Panel and modular control system from B&R. B&R Industrial Automation

Counterfeit rolling bearings get destroyed
FOLLOWING A SIMILAR opera- tion in 2007 in which 40 tonnes of counterfeit rolling bearings were seized, Schaeffler has destroyed a further 26 tonnes of counterfeit bearings with a value of more than one million Euros. A large proportion of the counterfeit Schaeffler bearings were seized in raids on bearing distributors across Europe. The recent seizure and subse- quent process of destroying the
various sizes and types of coun- terfeit rolling bearings involves crushing the bearings in a scrap press. The press breaks-up the bearings into smaller pieces, damaging them so much that they are rendered unusable. Worldwide, Schaeffler is actively pursuing the counter- feiting of rolling bearings and the distribution of these prod- ucts, which in some cases leads to prosecution.
The economic losses caused by counterfeit products are dif- ficult to estimate. As well as lost sales and damage to the image of the bearing manufac- turer, high costs are also incurred for investigating, con- fiscating and correctly dispos- ing of counterfeit bearings.
