struction had done a lot of work through the years with the House of Heroes and through happenstance heard of the wounded soldier’s need. “We showed him
the lots we had and became connected,” Teeples recalls. He and designer Catherine Cheval sat
down with Mike and found out his needs and desires. Tey also met with the Tunnel to Tower Foundation and the Gary Sinise Foundation, the groups that have devel- oped the Building for America’s Bravest program to provide homes for wounded warriors.
Since money is available from the Fed-
eral Government to cover some of the costs of modifying a house, the builders also had to comply with 120 pages of regu- lations as they drew up the plans for the intelligent home. Tere are the common issues of access
that other handicapped home owners need. Teeples points out that although Mike can walk now, that doesn’t mean
