The Old Woman at The Palace Theatre sees the return of innovative theatre director Robert Wilson. During MIF11, Wilson directed The Life and Death of Marina Abramovic at the Lowry, where visitors were greeted by live Doberman dogs prowling the stage and a lighting design that was a work of art in itself.
Manchester Art Gallery host do it 2013, a 20th Anniversary edition of Hans Ulrich Obrist’s do it series, which sees artists reinterpret the directions of others. Those involved include Yoko Ono, Tracey Emin, Sarah Lucas, Ai Weiwei and Gilbert and George.
The more adventurous MIF visitor should venture to Mayfield Depot - a disused railway station left to decay in recent decades. Whether it is an audio-visual feast with Massive Attack vs Adam Curtis, the immersive work of artist Tino Sehgal or bubbles and foam in Mette Ingvartsen’s Evaporated Landscapes, this venue is sure to disrupt sensory perceptions.

transforming a three-storey mill in Salford into a urban research centre with a community food production hub where visitors can learn about window-sill gardening, flower bombs and urban bee keeping amongst many other innovative activities.
