TECHNOLOGY This section takes a look at some of the latest innovations to be adopted by the retail sector.
ZBD – dynamic display solutions
Earlsmann – TURIN LED Panel Light
Earlsmann’s LED panel lights are designed to replace 600x600 fl uorescent ceiling fi tting with an even illumination solution. The readily available control systems make them “perfect” for retrofi t solutions. Available in neutral, cool white and warm these UK designed and manufactured panel lights provide an output of up to 3200 lumens from 36 watts and the surface texture provides minimal glare. These high effi ciency
This solution allows retailers to display product information on electronic shelf labels without the need for paper labels. The solution eliminates the need for retailers to print out labels every time product information, promotions or pricing changes reducing the amount of paper, ink and toner used. ZBD’s fully graphic displays are battery powered and only consume power when updated. ZBD says the solution is particularly eff ective when used in conjunction with perishable goods, such as fruit and vegetables, as the price can be easily changed as the product nears its use by date. The solution has been implemented by a broad range of retailers.
J2 Retail Systems – J2 625
This integrated touchscreen computer comes with a fi ve inch 4:3, mercury-free, LED backlit display, which is fully adjustable, bright and easy to read. J2 Retail Systems believes it represents a generational shift in POS technology, resulting in exceptional reliability, reduced power consumption and extended product life. The fanless J2 625 is powered by the energy-effi cient Intel Dual core 1.86GHz D2550 Cedarview processor, which the manufacturer says is known for delivering higher speed whilst consuming less power. By standardising components J2 says it is able to extend its product life and reduce the cost of ownership for consumers. The screen is also spill-proof and dust-proof.
luminaires can drive down energy costs and the user’s carbon
footprint. Fitted with a 1-10 or DALI dimmer, they can be
used in conjunction with daylight harvesting or occupancy sensors to further maximise on energy savings.
Daikin – VRV IV heat pump
Daikin says its new 4th generation variable refrigerant volume (VRV) heat pump achieves a new benchmark for effi ciency off ering three innovations: variable refrigerant temperature; continuous heating during defrost; and, simplifi ed commissioning and servicing. Using the integrated climate control system’s various modes, including ‘high sensible’, and combined with its daily auto cleaning fi lter option retailers can reduce their energy consumption by up to 50% over a year. It is also fi tted with a sensor which adjusts the set point or switches itself off when nobody is in the room. It can be used with a wide range of ventilation units, a carbon savings meter and has an ‘ECOMode’ which helps to save power and reduce heat.
