Jim Ryan was able to see the Solar Impulseon its visit to Lunken Field in Cincinnati (above) during its cross country flight. Jim was amazed at the slow flight (below) of the Solar Impulse.

i Fliers: most of you have heard of the Swiss-built Solar Impulse pi- loted by Bertrand Piccard and Andre Borschberg making its cross country journey. Cincinnati was a stop on Solar Impulse’s trip across America. Jim Ryan was able to attend the Solar Im- pulse takeoff from Lunken Field in Cincin- nati and provide us with some fantastic pic- tures. Jim commented that the plane flies as slow as a blimp and you can hear the electric propulsion system as it passes by. Thanks, Jim!

Keith Shaw’s Birthday Fly-In was held on June 8–9 at the beautiful Balsa Butch- ers RC Club of Coldwater, Michigan. CD was Dave Grife. Dave was able to order per- fect birthday flying weather for Keith with cool dry temperatures and low winds all day long. This set the scene for a great time of flying and singing of Happy Birthday along with some aviation themed treats baked by Traci Jo Hubbard, Teri and Baylee Finegan.

Keith wowed the crowd with his 1905 Wright Flyer from Radical RC www.radical rc.com with some extra detail he added. Keith made some faux gas tanks which he used to hide the A123 cells from sight. Keith called this the Wright’s cross country version of the Flyer. The Wright Flyer was launched from a takeoff dolly which really added to the excitement and worked perfectly. Mr. CD, Dave Grife, had his newest cre- ation, an Airworld Models Me-262. The mod- el spans 80 inches and is powered by two Jet- fan 90mm fans on HET 700 series motors of

1865 Kv. Speed controls are the Castle Edge 130, each with a 6-cell 5000 mAh battery, and Robart electric retracts handling the gear needs. Total weight is 18.25 pounds. The sound and performance of Dave’s 262 are hard to tell from the real thing.
