Warbirds Over Texas 2013


Finnis Hopson’s well-trained Composite ARF F4U4 Corsair(at left) unfolds its wings while taxiing and then moves rapidly to gain speed for take-off once the wings (above) are locked down. The model is powered by a Moki 5-cylinder engine that helps it duplicate realism in sound and flight.


Tom Blakeney pictured on the left and Ed Furche, on the right, brought matching Dynam Me-262 Schwalbes (above left) to this year’s event, except that Tom decided the stock paint scheme was not accurate enough and re-did his to conform more to scale. The models are powered by twin 70mm motors


spinning 5-bladed fans. All ready for behind-the-lines infiltration, this jumper (above right) in the doorway of Wayne “Mad Dog” Moore’s Pilatus PC-6 Turbo Porter is completely equipped, including a sheath-knife and his AR-15 visible through the side window.


The twin Spandau machine guns mounted on Rich Richardson’s Balsa USA Fokker D-VII (above left) complement the pilot with his period flight helmet with its stitching and his worn leather flight jacket. WWI open cockpit planes lend themselves well to details that add character to the entire presentation. The veteran B-17 Flying Fortress, “Milk Wagon” (above right) made another

appearance this year with its realistic weathering, smoke system to simulate contrails, and full miniature crew. The model definitely looks the part of a war weary yet well maintained bomber. This joint venture of Dan Givney and pilot Brett Bowling is powered by four Saito .82 four-stroke engines and commands attention in the air.
