bandwagon once cupcakes became cool – Kate was one of the pioneering people who made them cool. She started her cupcake company


Cakeadoodledo back in 2006, and two years later her book Cupcake Magic was published, gaining her a reputation for colourful, exuberant cakes that taste divine. She’s since published four other books as well as writing regular articles, and Cakeadoodledo has evolved to encompass Kate’s range of glamorous-yet-practical kitchen linens plus her wedding and celebration cakes, loaf cakes, biscuits and meringues – as well, of course, as cupcakes. Recently, Kate opened her first shop, in Deanery Place near Exeter Cathedral. “For the last three or four years, people have been saying ‘where’s your shop,

pretty spotted gift boxes, Kate’s books, her kitchen linens including aprons and ‘oven gauntlets’, packs of Cakeadoodledo house blend coffee (roasted in Honiton especially for Kate), cake stands, coffee pots, baking gifts and some of the local ingredients she uses, such as Cranfields preserves, South Devon Chilli Farm chilli jam, Rookbeare ice cream, particularly-special French vanilla and sprinkles.


More than just cupcakes ... And there’s more. “As well as the retail side we have a coffee shop,” says Kate, “so you can sit and scoff cake, drink our delicious coffee, have lunch and then take some cakes away with you, should you feel so inclined. “We make everything from the shop,


so people can see – and smell – the cakes being baked and watch us decorating wedding cakes and other big orders. “As the kitchen is open, there’s nowhere


to hide – people can see exactly what goes into our cakes and how they are made.
