Calco Enters Agricultural Market As part of a new product develop-
ment process that began in 2011, Te C.A. Lawton Co. (Calco), De Pere, Wis., has completed qualification and is now in full production for its first major agricultural equipment manu- facturing customer. Calco delivers the component machined complete, providing a single source for OEMs. Calco will machine the castings onsite or in its Centerline plant in Hobart, Wis. “It involved substantial collabora-
tion around new product develop- ment, and it’s an integrated offering in that we provide castings, paint and machining,” said Alex Lawton, CEO, Calco. “Tis is a significant piece of business for us because it so thor- oughly utilizes our capabilities and touches on so many of our strategic priorities. [It] requires a higher level of communication and flexibility.”
Calco produces large gray and ductile iron castings as well as machined components for domes- tic manufacturers in the HVAC, municipal pump and valve, oil and gas, mining, and power generation
industries. Its customers include General Electric, IR/Trane, Metso, and Siemens. Calco’s integrated business employs 150 people and includes patternmak- ing, casting and machining.
Alupress AG to Open New U.S. Plant in 2014
Alupress AG, South Tyrol, Italy, has announced plans to establish a new 30,000-sq.-ft. aluminum casting production facility in Laurens County, S.C. Te $19.9 million investment is expected to generate 57 new jobs, ac- cording to the South Carolina Dept. of Commerce. Alupress recently purchased Germany-based Koerber LLC, now named Alupress LLC. “We are pleased with the opportuni- ty to move forward with plans to locate
our new production facility in Laurens County. Te new plant will give us close proximity to our customers,” said Wolf- gang Knollseisen, CFO, Alupress AG. “South Carolina provides us with an excellent business environment and the sort of workforce talent we need. We appreciate all the support we’ve received from state and local officials.” Te new facility is expected to begin
operations in 2014, manufacturing automotive products.
