Helping HTA members save money HSE’s new charging regime
During an inspection, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) now hasthe power to charge a business for any health and safety contravention, or ‘material breach’, £124 per hour under its ‘fee for intervention’ charging regime. Following recent budget cuts of 35%, the Government imposed a legal duty on the HSE to recover its costs from non-compliant
businesses. The average cost of intervention activity is: l Inspection resulting in letter –£750 l Inspection resulting in enforcement notice –£1500 l Investigations can amount to tens of thousands of pounds.
Another victim of the budget cuts was the HSE’s helpline, which took over 750,000 calls per annum. Its closure marks the end of free one-to-one health and safety advice for UK businesses and the general public. The HTA’s newly launched cost-reduction programme
(CRoP) delivers members Citation’s Queen’s Award-winning service that provides guaranteed health and safety compliance, with members also benefitting from a 10% discount. Citation’s unique advice guarantee means that if you follow the company’s recommendations and yet still face charges from the HSE, Citation will pay those charges on your behalf.
