Message from the President
When I think about an annual message, instead of talking about important, but perishable, issues of the day, my thoughts tend to turn toward people — MOAA members in particular — and the countless examples of unselfish leadership that they exhibit.
What we do as an association is serious business, but I never lose sight of the fact that we are a membership organization and that means our business is people. People who have stories, told and untold. People who have hardships and needs. People who have families, jobs, health and financial challenges, joys, and sorrows.
MOAA is not unique in that it represents people. What makes MOAA special is that our members are special. No other organization has people with the legacy of service and sacrifice that MOAA has. No one else has the grassroots leadership and influence across the country. No other organization truly deserves the advocacy that you have. And no other military association gets the recognition that MOAA gets.
But while our efforts don’t always succeed, the task is made easier knowing that all 380,000-plus MOAA members devoted themselves to service before self when the country needed them. You are indeed inspiring. I encourage you to read some of the stories of your fellow members and to share your story, too.
Thank you for your membership and your leadership. I am proud to be your president. Vice Adm. Norbert R. Ryan Jr., USN (Ret), President Awe-Inspiring Views | 1
