Ed Barfield retired from the Navy in 2010, but he began his transition research much earlier. He attended a MOAA transition seminar in 2002. “I was already aware of MOAA, but I became a member at the transition seminar.” Since then he realized the association’s legislative information to be just as valuable as the transition assistance. “MOAA encapsulates the issues that are essential to military personnel – across the board,” he says. “I became a Life Member because I wanted that information for the rest of my life — and for my spouse. She is not aware of a lot of these benefits, and there will come a point where she’ll have this resource available if she ever needs it.”
