This photo was taken at the Damnoen Saduak floating market

in Thailand, a popular destination for tourists to experience how fruits and vegetables are traditionally sold. Walking downstream to escape the crowds, I noticed one vendor in their boat drifting quietly in the same direction. What first struck me were the different textures and colours coming from the wooden boat, the ripe bananas, and the person’s hands. I also saw a special relationship the vendor had with the food by how they interacted with it. When I look at this photo now, I see how food has the ability to bring people together. The vendor could be anyone, from anywhere. They could be a woman or man, mother or father, a stranger or neighbour. At the end of the day, we are all intrinsically connected by the food we eat, to the people who sell it, and to those who plant the first seed.

// As a socially and environmentally conscious person, being able to

explore and experience the world and what it has to offers is important to Anice Wong. With a diverse background in film and video production as well as international development, Anice is able to bring creativity and critical thinking to the table. Working as a photographer with NGOs and with the media has introduced Anice to people and places full of incredible stories. She hopes to share these stories with as many people as possible. www.anicewong.com
