Better EMC performance for guaranteed signal integrity M12 D-coded cable assemblies

These new Belden Duobond Plus cables include all the regular

features of Belden HD Digital Video cables with the addition of improved EMC performance, providing the end user with extra confidence of the signal integrity when using these cables at data rates of 3GB/s.

Duobond Plus includes an outer layer of foil which features a

Belden has extended its range of coaxial digital video cables and connectors in the EMEA region by introducing the broadcast industry’s first HD digital video cables with improved electro- magnetic compatibility (EMC) performance for increased up- time and signal integrity.

Duobond Plus HD Digital Video cables are able to deliver SD, HD and 3G video with guaranteed signal integrity over longer transmis- sion distances, helping to save both installation time and costs.

Driving you round the bend A common problem for electricians is how to navigate

cable through obstacles such as wooden joists. However, to tackle this problem Super Rod has devel- oped its new Flexi Drill Kit.

The kit allows the user to drill through noggins, joists and wooden obstructions, and its flexibility allows you to pass into wall and floor spaces, through tight access holes whilst preventing the big problem of misdirection. The wooden guide ball keeps the drill head perfectly centered within the wall space. The standard 1.2m kit comes complete with a 10mm Auger drill bit, but the latest design of this kit now allows you to interchange between a 10mm and 15mm Auger drill bit as and when required. Hylec-APL has launched a new cable gland which is fully certi- fied for use in railway applica- tions for both the European and US rail industries. The gland has an ingress protection rating of IP68, and has passed all the relevant fire safety tests to achieve NF F 16-101 and UL 514B certification.

Due to safety regulations, all electrical components used for applications within the rail industry must offer a high degree of fire resistance to help slow the spread of fire and nox- ious gases in the event of an emergency. Using a specialised flame-proof polyamide (PA6) with a fire class V0 according to

UL94, the cable gland has been certified in accordance with the internationally recognised NF F 16-101 standard. It’s also approved to UL514B for appli- cations in the US and Canada. The IP68 dome topped cable gland uses traditional means to form a quick and secure connec- tion - an integrated anchorage is part of the design which is then secured to the entry point of the enclosure or bulkhead using a standard hexagonal locknut. To secure the relevant certifications the component is manufactured from a material which does not ignite under filament effect at 850°C (with a wall thickness of 0.5mm) and has a proven smoke gas index of I.F. ≤ 40.

The cable glands are avail- able with Metric and PG thread in either grey or black and can accommodate a range of cable diameters. Hylec APL www.Hylec-APL.com T: 01933 234 400

shorting fold which creates the effect of a solid metal conduit. This shorting fold provides metal to metal contact, which improves the high frequency performance of the cable. This fold prevents a slot opening from being created in the shield, thereby preventing signal egress or ingress. This outer foil is bonded to the jacket, making stripping and connectorising easier. Used with Belden 1-piece HD compression connectors on both ends of the cable, Duobond Plus are easy to install, saving instal- lation time and costs. Belden www.beldensolutions.com T: 0161 498 3749

HARTING has introduced a new range of M12 D-coded over- moulded cable assemblies that offer 360° screened M12 Ethernet connection cable to offer reliable data transmission, particularly in industrial envi- ronments affected by electro- magnetic interference.

All 4-wire cable connections are overmoulded along with the optimised M12 components, which feature crimp connection technology, gold plated con- tacts and IP65/67 protection. The cables can also be supplied in 100m rings and on 500m cable drums.

The new assemblies meet the performance requirements of Cat 5e, 4-pole, D-coded as specified in the IEC 61076-2-101 standard, and are also approved for use in rail applications. HARTING www.HARTING.com T: 01604 827 500

Professional solution to cable testing

Martindale Electric has recently launched its new Professional CD1000 general purpose cable detector which has been designed to quickly and accu- rately trace cables in walls and under- ground, locate fuses/breakers on live or dead circuits and locate interruptions and open circuits in cables and electri- cal floor heating systems. The CD1000 can also be used to trace metallic water and heating pipes.

Supplied as a complete kit, the CD1000, which includes a transmitter and a receiver (which can also be used as a non-contact voltage indicator) negates the need for any other addition- al electrical equipment when detecting cables, thus saving time and money. Using advanced technology, the CD1000 allows the operator to change transmission coding, so up to six differ- ent circuits can be tested at any one time. Results are then displayed both visually and audibly. Different code set- tings can be easily changed using an integral switch, without the need to dis- mantle the unit.

Featuring an auto-sensitivity setting, APRIL 2013 Electrical Engineering

the CD1000 also allows for a manual sensitivity adjustment, to meet any per- sonal preferences.

The CD1000 comes complete with an LED torch for work in dimly lit environ- ments and a self test facility for addition- al safety. The unit comes supplied with a set of TL47 test leads with crocodile clips, earthing rod, 9V and 1.5 Alkaline batteries and a case with full instructions, making it ready for immediate use. All Martindale Electric products come com- plete with a two year warranty. Martindale Electric www.martindale-electric.co.uk T: 01923 441717
