Dialight has recently introduced its new Zone 1 certified SafeSite stainless steel LED linear which reduces maintenance thanks to its durability - particularly for Ex inspections - and is suitable for offshore and onshore applications

ialight’s new stainless steel linear LED fitting has been designed specifically to reduce maintenance needs in haz- ardous areas as a replacement for con- ventional Ex fluorescent fittings. Available in both 32W and 64W ver- sions (2x18W and 2x36W fluorescent equivalents) and carrying IECEx/ATEX Zone 1 and 21, Zone 2 and 22 certifica- tion, the 316 grade stainless steel linear LED fitting is also D Shock com- pliant to MOD specification BR8470 to Grades C and D.


D Put to the test


In order to meet this particular specifi- cation Dialight’s LED luminaires underwent tests on a deck shock machine that simulates the effects of an explosion on ships’ decks and bulk- heads. The video of the test (which can be viewed at http://bit.ly/Y9SgZx) shows just how much punishment the LED linear and bulkhead fittings take from 35G and 70G stress - but the lights don’t even flicker.


First the test is shown in real time, then at half speed and finally at 25 frames a second. As demonstrated in this test, the new LED luminaire is highly resistant to shock and vibration and, with its stainless steel housing, it is also corrosion resistant to make it resilient in harsh environments. The fitting incorporates a replaceable integrated power supply that is guaran- teed to give maintenance-free perfor- mance for at least five years and, unlike the fluorescents it replaces, will not suffer from end of life failures. fitting can reduce dangerous and costly maintenance and Ex inspection needs in inaccessible and testing environments that are particularly common offshore, but also occurring in many other appli- cations like oil and gas, power genera- tion, chemical and pharmaceutical facilities, water treatment and mining.


Additional benefits


Another feature of the new luminaire is Dialight’s glare-free advanced lens design that allows it to replicate exactly the current fluorescent light distribution pattern while simultane- ously improving light output. At the same time its streamlined shape reduces the impact area of the tradi- tional polycarbonate diffuser.

The SafeSite LED Linear is T4 tem- perature rated for reliable performance from -20°C to 60°C and L70 lumen maintenance at 25°C for 100,000 hours. The units are IP66 rated for superior ingress protection and are sealed at the end caps, limiting the surface area compared to conventional fluorescents. Its low profile form factor also improves wind resistance while its elliptical profile minimises areas where dirt or dust could accumulate.
