Irish Beauty chats with Lydia Sarfati, CEO and founder of Repêchage, about her early career beginnings and living life to full in The Big Apple
I began working in the beauty industry because…Ever since I was a little girl I always wanted to be in the industry. I grew up in Poland and my teachers remembered me always coming to school with fingernail clippers, chasing around the boys trying to give them manicures! I also remember making my friends come to my house after school so I could try my new facial masks on them. I used to mix up anything I could find in my kitchen and see what would work and what wouldn’t.
If I wasn’t in the beauty industry… I think I would have made a great politician!
The best thing about my job is… Being able to make people feel good about themselves. I am very lucky to be part of an industry where every day you are making the world a more beautiful place.
An average day for me is… I wake-up and exercise first thing either at the gym or, weather permitting, Central Park. When I get to work I am doing a variety of things; Skyping with international clients, brainstorming new client development with my sales team, working on formulas with my R&D team, meeting with our legal department, press interviews and reviewing marketing materials.
My ideal weekend would be… Going for a beautiful breakfast with my husband and then spending the day enjoying the finer parts of New York City. I love visiting the museum and going to the opera. I would then finish my weekend by spending time with my children, my grandchildren and making a wonderful meal for them all.
My favourite book is…I have so many. I’ve just finished a great series
82 Lydia Sarfati
by Daniel Silva all about espionage, CIA, KGB - very exciting.
My favourite film is…My husband David and I are big movie lovers. This season my top three were; Les Misérables, Django Unchained and Anna Karenina.
The most famous person I have met is…Being a celebrity aesthetician I’ve had my fair share of run-ins with celebrities including Liam Neeson, Meg Ryan, Kiefer Sutherland and even Betty White.
My favourite part of the world is… I love New York City, but if I had to choose somewhere else it would have to be Italy. Especially Tuscany; it is just so beautiful there.
I could not live without… Champagne, darling! And of course I
wouldn’t last very long without my Repêchage Vita Cura Triple Firming Cream, Biolight Brightening Miracle Mask or my Biolight Brightening Daytime Protection Cream.
My favourite beauty treatment is… The Repêchage Four Layer Facial.
When growing up my role model was…My father. He had a great optimistic attitude and was charming. He taught me how to be a good person and most of all, because of his love.
I would like to be remembered as…A person who changed the face of the skin care industry. I want everyone to remember that I always put skin care and aestheticians first.
