Irish journalist, presenter and news reader, Elaine Crowley is known as the ‘Oprah Winfrey’ of TV3.

She met Oonagh Clarke to discuss her beauty regime, beauty disasters and paralysed chipmunks!

Oonagh: How important is how you look to your career?

Elaine: I don’t think it’s terribly important as long as I look presentable.

Oonagh: Tell me about you beauty regime?

Elaine: I use mainly Clarins make-up as it goes on perfectly and suits my skin – and stays on for TV which is important! I’m not the best when it comes to removing my make-up every night…but I do drink litres of water every day – that’s my main tip!

Oonagh: Do you have treatments in the salon, and what is your favourite?

Elaine: If my skin needs some perking up I‘ll go to Bespoke Beauty (in Donnybrook, Dublin) for a facial – Elaine Butler Doolin really knows her stuff.

For a more intense treatment I’ll go into River Medical for a Pelleve-Peel about three times a year. It really tones up my face and boosts the collagen. I wear so much make-up for work I really have to look after my skin - especially as I get older.

Oonagh: What is your best feature? Elaine: Probably my eyes.

Oonagh: What would be your desert island product? Elaine: Factor 50 sunscreen!

Oonagh: Would you ever consider Botox® or fillers?

“Eyebrows can totally transform the face if they’re shaped properly – and can ruin it if not.”

- Elaine Crowley

Elaine: Not at the moment…I think they can make some people look like a paralysed chipmunk! But who knows what I’ll decide in the future, never say never.

Oonagh: Any beauty mistakes you will admit to?

Elaine: Too many to count... usually to do with red lipstick and fake tan, and an unfortunate incident after I left Immac on too long. Ouch!

Oonagh: Do you think Irish women are beautiful in general?

Elaine: I think we have beautiful skin and amazing potential – but a lot of women just don’t know the basics when it comes to make-up and grooming. Eyebrows can totally transform the face if they’re shaped properly – and can ruin it if not.

Oonagh: Who do you most admire and why?

Elaine: I really admire the other female producers I work with – Debbie O’ Donnell from Xposé and Victoria O’ Brien from Ireland AM. I find producing Midday hard enough – I don’t know how they manage all that and a family as well.

Oonagh: Working on the Midday show, do you have any funny beauty incidents that you can tell us about?

Elaine: One particular panellist (who shall remain nameless) went on air once with make-up on the left side of her face – the right side was totally bare… the poor woman.
