Mass Raspberry Pi workshop launched for teachers

UK distributor, CPC, partnered with ‘Raspberry Jam’ network founder and Principle ICT teacher, Alan O'Donohoe to give teachers a 'byte' of coding know- how in an initiative to head off a looming skills crisis in ICT education

As part of long term mission to bring coding to the classroom, the online electrical goods & Raspberry Pi distributor championed

the UK’s first-ever Raspberry Jamboree, which provided hands-on Raspberry Pi workshops and lectures to 350 teachers and educators. The sessions, with the low cost credit-card sized PC, aimed to help educators develop the necessary skills needed to apply their knowledge and teach coding in the classroom - helping to fill a critical gap in the current ICT curriculum, soon to be addressed by Michael Gove’s proposed coding-focused revisions. With no existing high quality programmes to help educators in these areas and only three years before these curriculum changes come into full effect, the Raspberry Jamboree provided a lifeline for educators eager for an insight into the skills they will require for the ICT classroom of tomorrow. The event also provided a platform for this year’s biggest interactive debate on the future direction of ICT in education and how innovations such as Raspberry Pi are driving change in the existing curriculum. Led by a panel including Professor Steve Furber (Principal Designer of BBC Micro), Pete Lomas (Raspberry Pi Co-Founder), and young, enthusiastic teachers such as Carrie Anne Philbin, it was broadcast via a ticketed live video stream broadcast around the globe.
