3M and PSP asset protection agreement to benefit school and college libraries

13 February 2013 marked a historic day for PSP Asset Protection in Suffolk as it formalised its distributor agreement with the Library Systems division of 3M, the diversified technology company. With more than 40 years’ experience of delivering innovative library systems 3M has agreed a distributor deal with another well established and trusted library security company in PSP Asset Protection.

The distributor agreement is perfectly timed to benefit school and college libraries as they increase their investment in new technologies such as RFID self-service and stock management. Both 3M and PSP Asset Protection are committed to finding the right solutions for libraries through collaborative problem solving and ongoing support. Existing PSP Asset Protection customers and potential customers will gain from this agreement, as PSP can now supply 3M products providing greater efficiency and ease of use for both librarians and library users.

3M Library Systems now on offer through PSP Asset Protection include: • RFID and EM SelfCheck Systems • 3M Digital Library Assistant • RFID and EM Detection Systems

• Staff Workstations • 3M Command Centre • RFID tags and Tattle-Tape Security Strips from 3M

Commenting on the distributor agreement, Nick Hunt, managing director of PSP Asset Protection said:

“At PSP Asset Protection our goal is to offer the very best products available. Having worked alongside and, at times, in direct competition with 3M over the past three decades we are incredibly excited about the opportunities this distributor agreement will create. It means we can now offer our customers the latest 3M technology to make their libraries more efficient and user friendly.” Welcoming the distributor agreement, 3M’s Samantha Graham said: “At 3M we pride ourselves on developing innovative solutions for libraries.

“3M recognises the depth of knowledge and expertise of the PSP Asset Protection team and is very happy to work with PSP to help make school and college libraries an even better experience for users. PSP Asset Protection and 3M are here to support school and college libraries into the 21st century and beyond.”

Signature launches teaching aid that goes beyond phonics

S

ignSpell, a brand new cross curriculum teaching aid and educational resource for Key Stage 1 and 2 has been launched. The series has been developed by Signature, the UK’s specialist awarding body for British Sign Language. SignSpell’s method uses British Sign Language (BSL) as a vehicle to enhance children’s language skills, broaden their communication toolset and to support emotional and kinetic learning. The holistic learning pack requires no prior knowledge of BSL and encourages classroom inclusivity for all abilities.

The educational package includes online digital resources, detailed lesson plans and a series of themed books and interactive activities, which encourage individual and group learning.

March 2013

Through the use of BSL as an interactive activity, SignSpell complements phonics-based teaching material and offers an additional strategy to encourage literacy and learning both at home and in the classroom.

As well as enhancing pupils’ language and communication skills, the use of SignSpell and sign language in the classroom will: give pupils new skills to help them remember words and spellings; encourage pupils of all levels to join in, share, take turns, and help others; help pupils gain a greater understanding of other people's feelings; inspire self-expression and confidence amongst pupils and develop pupils’ awareness of BSL and its use in the wider community. Paul Parsons, SignSpell Director said: “A recent SignSpell pilot scheme showed that

teachers found SignSpell to be a fantastic way of inspiring their classes to think beyond standard phonics-based learning. Pupils had great fun learning sign language and interacting with each other in a new way, which they continued into the playground. After the 30 minute interactive SignSpell lesson, pupils were focused on the day ahead, using sign language to spell out CVC words in the following English class and to count numbers in math class.”
