A new combined soft-start and quick exhaust safety valve has been launched by Festo. The new MS6-SV-C offers high flow rates in a compact size, and can vent air in a system quickly and reliably, thus offering machine builders enhanced safety.
This next generation of valve is highly configurable and enables machine builders to freely adjust both the air flow and the pressure switching point, and therefore best optimise their system. The safety valves are well suited for medium to low risk systems and have certification up to Performance Level C in accordance with DIN EN ISO 13849-1. They have been designed for applications with low switching frequencies, for example venting after emergency stop buttons or door locks are activated.
Thanks to its soft-start function, unregulated movements by system components are avoided during start-up and the system con- tains no residual pressure once vented, therefore pro- viding safety for the machine operator. There are two valves in the range, the MS6-SV- C and MS9-SV-C, compatible with either 60mm or 90mm grid size MS series air preparation ranges. The MS6-SV-C has a standard nominal flow rate of up to 5,700l/min and a venting capacity of up to 7,600l/min. The MS9-SV-C delivers a higher standard nominal flow rate of up to 16,500l/min and venting capacity up to 20,500l/min.
Combining two functions in one unit, the valves are particularly suitable for system man- ufacturers in the automotive, food and packaging industries and can be installed easily into an air preparation system as part of the safety configura- tion set-up. Aiming for improved performance
Siemens Industry has launched the Simatic S7-1500, the next generation controller family for medium to high end machine and plant automation.
Features of the new controllers include a host of functions inte- grated as standard, including motion control, maximum secu- rity and safety applications that are easy to implement.
The controllers are designed to drive greater efficiencies includ- ing innovative design for simple commissioning and safe opera-
tion, configurable diagnostic functions for plant status and integration into the Siemens Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) Portal for simple engineer- ing and low project costs. The new Simatic S7-1500 controllers range is being launched in stages. Initially, the portfolio will comprise three CPU types - 1511, 1513 and 1516 for the medium perfor- mance range. Each is also avail- able as a F-version (failsafe) for safety applications, with graded performance features.
These differ in the number of interfaces, bit performance and the size of the display and data memory. According to the indi- vidual automation task, the CPUs in the central configuration can be supplemented with as many as 32 expansion modules e.g. with the new communication and technology modules or IO modules, in the same format as Simatic ET 200MP from Siemens. Designed for real time industrial Ethernet applications, HMS Industrial Networks has intro- duced its new Anybus NP40 net- work processor which allows industrial devices to communi- cate over any industrial network and forms the core of HMS’s new CompactCom chip, brick and module concept.
The NP40 can support several different industrial Ethernet and Fieldbus networks by simply downloading new firmware. This reduces systems’ develop- ment time because there is no need for redevelopment for each additional network, allowing device manufacturers to simply install a communication inter- face into a product and then download the firmware they need before sending their prod- ucts off to the end customer. Phoenix Contact has introduced its PSK AFS compressed air mea- suring devices with IO Link inter- face which monitor the consumption of compressed air and help optimise its use. The compact volume flow sensors apply the calorimetric measuring principle and can detect even the smallest con- sumption quantities from 0.06Nm3
/h.
In addition to the IO Link com- munication system that facilitates intelligent communication between the sensor and the con- troller, the compressed air coun- ters can output analogue values and measure switching thresholds via two digital outputs. These options for outputting measured
current and temperature data enable universal connection to process and control systems. The compressed air counters measure the current volume flow, the volume consumed, and the tem- perature of the compressed air in the process that is being monitored. The devices offer a measured value and status display in addi- tion to the numerous configura- tion and measuring options available via the IO Link, provid- ing users with an overview directly at the sensor. The NP40 technology offers users the speed and accuracy they need for demanding applications, and the flexibility to adapt to dif- ferent networks by simply down- loading a new firmware. The solution is based on MicroSemi SmartFusion technology but inte- grates HMS’s blocks like the RTA (Real Time Accelerator) for indus- trial communication.
The Anybus NP40 is a single chip network processor that includes an ARM core and an FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array) fabric. The ARM core runs the protocol and application stacks while the FPGA fabric is used to implement the various real time Ethernet interfaces. A real time switch is inte- grated into the FPGA fabric and it supports synchronous cyclic messaging in real time networks such as PROFINET IRT, Powerlink, EtherCAT and Sercos III.
