USA 83, Italy 43 Improving its lead in each of the

four quarters, the USA rolled to a convincing 83-43 win over Italy. “I felt like this was our best overall

four quarters of just real steady, solid basketball that we've played since we've gotten together,” said Schneider. “From the very beginning of the game we just did all of the little things that we've talked about getting done to win games. “We just slowly, gradually built a

40-point lead. It was nothing flashy, just really good team basketball.” The balanced U.S. attack featured

five players in double figures, including 16 points and nine rebounds from Greenwell, who shot 4-of-10 from 3-point to establish a USA U17 record for 3-point attempts. Additionally, the USA established a

team high for free throw percentage at 80.0 percent (21-26 FTs). Harper, who

Accounting for 11.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 2.0 steals a game, Rebecca Greenwell finished the U17 World Championship with a 13 point and 11 rebound performance in the gold medal win over Spain.

finished with 11 points, was 7-of-7 from the line to tie the record for free throw percentage. Reimer added 12 points, DeShields

scored 11 and dished out seven assists, Turner contributed 10 points and Russell grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds to go with her eight points. Italy put the first four points on the

board, but the USA quickly erased the deficit with 10 unanswered points to lead 10-4 at 6:39. Italy scored out of its ensuing time-

out and fought back to within two points, 15-13, with a 3-pointer at 2:37. The comeback was short-lived, however, as a free throw from Davis started the U.S. on another 10-0 run to close the period with a 25-13 advantage. The scoring streak reached 16 points

as it stretched into the second period, and a score from McCall put the USA up 31-13 at 6:55. Italy ended its drought with two free throws, but managed only six points in the stanza, and at the midway point the USA led 43-19. All four of Greenwell’s 3-pointers

came in the second half, including three in the third quarter to help the USA tally 24 points. The U.S. defense, which held Italy to just 16.5 percent shooting for the game (13-79 FGs), did not let up and allowed only nine more points as the USA advantage widened to 67-28 headed into the final stanza. With the win secured, the USA

outscored Italy 16-15 in the final stanza for the 83-43 win.

USA 80, Belgium 50 After Belgium fought back to within

eight points in the third quarter, the USA responded with an 11-4 run to close the period with a 15-point lead and the game’s momentum on its way to an 80-50 win. The victory clinched the No. 1 seed out of preliminary round Group A for the USA. “I was pleased with our effort,” said

Schneider. “It wasn't a surprise that Belgium came out and played hard, and they played well. Throughout the first half and into the third quarter, we just kept needing some little spark that would give us some energy, and Linnae Harper in particular came out in the third quarter and really dominated things defensively and helped us create some opportunities that we were able to build on. We won by 30 points, but it felt like it was a struggle.”

Greenwell compiled 17 points, while

DeShields finished with a 14-point, 11- rebound double-double. Davis scored 12 points, while Harper grabbed a USA U17 high of seven steals to go with seven points and four assists. Additionally, the USA hit 7-of-11 from 3-point to set the team record for 3-point percentage at 63.6 percent. Belgium jumped to a 6-0 lead before Greenwell scored for the USA at 8:47.
