USA Basketball also will field a men’s Junior National Select Team, which is comprised of top high school players, for the 16th annual Nike Hoop Summit. FIBA 3x3 basketball continued to


develop and in 2013 FIBA will again conduct 3x3 U18 World Championships for men and women. International basketball fans will


also watch the men’s and women’s FIBA World Cup/Championship Qualifying Tournaments that will be utilized to determine each zone’s teams that will qualify for the 2014 FIBA World Cup/Championship.


FIBA U19 World Championship For Men The 2013 FIBA U19 World


Championship for Men will be contested June 27-July 7 in Prague, Czech Republic. The 2013 FIBA U19 World Championship for Men features 16 of the world’s top U19 national teams that will battle for gold, silver and bronze medals. The USA earned its qualifying spot


for the U19 worlds last summer by capturing top honors with a 5-0 record at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship. Approximately 30 athletes,

19-years-old or younger (born on or after 1/1/94), are expected to participate in the team’s training camp which will be held June 14-19 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Player selections for the USA U19 team will be made by USA Basketball’s Junior National Team Committee.


The 16 nations who qualified


include host Czech Republic, and 15 other nations that earned a spot through FIBA’s five zone qualifying tournaments. In addition to the USA (gold medalist), also advancing out of the 2012 FIBA


Americas U18 Championship were Brazil (silver medalist), Canada (bronze medalist) and Argentina (fourth place); FIBA Africa advanced Senegal (gold medalist) and Ivory Coast (silver medal- ist); China (gold medalist), South Korea (silver medalist) and Iran (bronze medalist) earned berths out of FIBA Asia; Australia took FIBA Oceania’s spot after wining a best-of-three series against New Zealand; while FIBA Europe will be represented by Croatia (gold medal- ist), Lithuania (silver medalist), Serbia (bronze medalist), Russia (fourth place)
