It is a story that has had the news channels transfi xed for weeks, but it was back in October 2012 that Parking News fi rst broke the story that the Yorkist king, Richard III may have come to his fi nal resting place in a car park in Leicester. Our hunch was fi nally proven fact when a distant relative of the king was traced and DNA samples proved conclusively that the skeleton was that of Richard III. The king was killed by his cousin, Henry, at the Battle of

Bosworth Field in 1485 during the War of the Roses, and for years the whereabouts of his skeleton has remained a mystery. The confi rmation of the identity of the remains also proves two other myths: Richard did have a curvature of the spine and he did die from multiple wounds, suggesting he was murdered, not just a casualty of battle.

And honing in on the huge interest in the ill-fated king’s skeleton being found buried in a Leicester car park, a theatre group has pulled off a publicity stunt for their own version of the Shakespeare play. Rob Forknall, director of Kent-based group The Changeling, donned a royal costume and cosied up on the gravel of a Gravesend car park.
