2013 College Curling National Championship field set By Gordon Maclean, Chairman, College Curling

T

he field of 16 schools for the 2013 College Curling National Championship has been set. Te event will be held at the Duluth Curling Club March 8-10.

Selection is based on merit points earned from school participation and

results in about 20 separate college curling events that have taken place since last fall. Schools are given the invitation rather than individual teams, and only one invitation is given to each school, but schools are encouraged to bring as many players as they wish and substitute freely between draws. Tis year, one school earned an automatic berth by winning a college-

only bonspiel that had more than 12 teams and more than 8 schools. Tat school is the College of Saint Benedict & Saint John's University (CSB/SJU), from Collegeville, Minn., and playing out of the Four Seasons CC in Blaine. In addition, a berth is given to the top school in each of the five college

curling regions. In addition to CSB/SJU, these schools are Villanova, Ten- nessee, Carroll University (WI), and Bowling Green State University (OH). Te remainder of the field comes from the schools that earned the most

points out of the 34 colleges and universities that participated this year. Te 16 schools are divided into four groups of four. Tey will play a round

robin within their group and the four group winners will advance to a Page system finals. Schools are seeded into their groups based on the points earned over the season. Here is a look at the four competing groups: Group 1: College of St. Benedict & St. John's University, University of

Minnesota, Colgate, Michigan Technological University Group 2: Villanova, Finlandia, Rochester Institute of Technology, Ham-

ilton College Group 3: University of Tennessee, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Bos-

ton University, Bowling Green University Group 4: Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Carroll University, Massa-

chusetts Institute of Technology, Bowdoin College Live webstreaming of the 2013 College Curling National Championships
