BAE Systems Wins $400 Million Navy Contract, Makes Key Appointments


BAE Systems has been selected by the U.S. Navy to maintain and service T-34, T-44 and T-6 trainer aircraft under a contract valued at approximately $400 million during five years. The company will perform scheduled inspections, along with required repairs, modifications and logistical support, for more than 300 aircraft operated by the Chief of Naval Air Training. “We continue to execute on our strategy to grow our services footprint within BAE Systems,” said Dave Herr, formerly president of


Spencer Joins Avgroup Avgroup announced today that Jim Spencer is opening a new office location for Avgroup in Wichita, Kan. His focus will be on customers in the Northwestern states of North America and in Canada. According to Avgroup, Spencer’s twenty-plus years of experience with Matrix Aviation and extensive avionics background align well with Avgroup’s goals. “We are excited to welcome Jim to the Avgroup team,” said Steve Piller, Avgroup’s president. “His avionics background and knowledge of the region will add a new dimension to our strong sales team as we head into 2013.”

BAE Systems Support Solutions and now executive vice president, Service Sectors (see below). “This win strengthens our position in the aviation services market and creates opportunities for additional organic growth.” The contract was awarded by the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR), based at Naval Air Station Patuxent River in Maryland. The work will be conducted at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi in Texas, at Naval Air Station Pensacola in Florida and at Naval Air Station Whiting Field, also in Florida.


“This is a major win for our team, significantly expanding our support to the U.S. Navy for trainer aircraft,” said Gordon Eldridge, vice president and general manager of Aerospace Solutions at BAE Systems. “We’re excited to have this opportunity to serve NAVAIR and the Chief of Naval Air Training.” The winning BAE Systems team includes support subcontractors Elbit Systems of America’s subsidiary M7 Aerospace LLC, PKL Services, Inc., Hawker Beechcraft, StandardAero, and Sensenich Propeller Service. The aircraft variants involved are the single-engine T-34, the twin-engine T-44A and


T-44C, and the single-engine T-6A and T-6B. The contract includes an initial base term plus multiple options. The period of performance will be five years if all options are exercised. BAE Systems also recently made two key appointments. David Herr, president of the company’s Support Solutions sector, is now executive vice president, Service Sectors. Herr, who succeeds Lawrence Prior, will lead the development and implementation of integrated business strategies to support the Service Sectors, which consist of Intelligence and Security and Support Solutions, in maintaining their current market leadership positions, pursuing new opportunities in the U.S. and internationally, and creating new market strongholds. “Throughout his career, Dave has directed complex, global organizations to fulfil critical and technologically challenging missions in both the service and product sectors,” said Linda P. Hudson, president and CEO of BAE Systems, Inc. “I look forward to working with Dave in his new role at a time when the entire BAE Systems, Inc. leadership team is focused on ensuring that BAE Systems is positioned to identify, pursue, and capture existing and emerging opportunities.” Herr also joins Linda P. Hudson, president and CEO of BAE Systems, Inc., and Tom Arseneault executive vice president, Product Sectors, to form the Office of the President and CEO of BAE Systems, Inc. Most recently Herr served as president of the Support Solutions sector, where he led more than 12,500 employees in providing a portfolio of air, land and maritime services to the U.S. Department of Defense and federal civilian customers. Before his role at Support Solutions, Herr was vice president of Commercial Avionics for BAE Systems’ Platform Solutions business, and prior to that, he served as vice president of operations for the company’s former Electronics & Integrated Solutions operating group and vice president of operations for Platform Solutions. In addition, BAE Systems announced that Erin Moseley, senior vice president of Government Relations, has been appointed president of the company’s Support Solutions sector, effective immediately. Moseley succeeds Herr. Previously, Moseley was president of Principled Strategies, a consulting firm and she worked for Lockheed Martin Corporation as vice president, Sensors and Electronic Systems, and led the Washington Operations in support of multiple business areas, including systems integration and sea-based platforms, missile defense, sensors and electronic systems, as well as simulation and training.

Armstrong Named COO of StarPort StarPort has named Roscoe C. Armstrong as COO. Jacqueline Cambata, president of Cambata Aviation International, said Armstrong will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of StarPort including aircraft maintenance, avionics, paint, interior and FBO services. “We are pleased to have Roscoe Armstrong join StarPort as a key member of our management team,” Cambata said. “His vast aviation services experience will help us solidify our market position as a leader in the MRO industry.” With more than 30 years administrative experience with aviation services companies, Armstrong has held key management positions in both federal and commercial aviation sectors including USDOJ/ DEA Air Wing, L-3 Communications, TXI Aviation and the FAA.


Athans to Succeed Jones at the Engine Alliance


Dean Athans has been named president of the Engine Alliance, succeeding Mary Ellen Jones, who is returning to a senior leadership position at Pratt & Whitney. The Engine Alliance is a 50/50 joint venture of GE Aviation and Pratt & Whitney. Athans comes to the Engine Alliance from the GE Power & Water Aero Derivatives business, where he has led the LMS100 power turbine product line since 2010. Prior to this role, Athans spent 25 years at GE Aviation.
