Weir capitalises on growing Indian coal-fi red power generation market
Weir’s isolation valve facility in Elland in the UK has secured the fi rst tranche of a 13
set order of Hopkinsons spring-loaded bypass valves for a portfolio of new coal-fi red power stations in India. The order was secured with support from the Weir BDK Delhi sales team against two strong global competitors. Each station will use between one and
six valves for emergency bypass of heat exchangers in supercritical and sub-critical steam applications. The fi rst three stations to be equipped will be the Avantha Bhandar power station and O. P. Jindal Super Thermal Power Plant, both in Chhattisgarh, and the Jhabua power station in Madhya Pradesh. The second stage of valve awards will be for six additional coal-fi red power stations, with a total capacity of over 8GW and is expected in 2013. The valves will be supplied via a major Indian engineering, procurement and construction

GASCO contract consolidates Weir position in Abu Dhabi valve market
The position of Weir Oil & Gas as a leading service provider for valves in
Abu Dhabi was enhanced by the recent award of a three year contract with Abu Dhabi Gas Industries Ltd (GASCO) for overhaul, repair and recertifi cation. GASCO has the highest installed population of valves in Abu Dhabi and they continue to invest in process assets with US$15bn of contracts through to 2015. A signifi cant proportion of this investment is in the installation of valves covering all ranges and types within their production processes. WESCO is seeking to maintain its
contractor and deliveries will be made in the third quarter of 2013. The Hopkinsons spring- loaded bypass valves have been written into the design of these new power stations and are now the contractor’s preferred solution for this application.
Kazakhstan contract win for Weir Oil & Gas
Weir Oil and Gas Services in the Middle East has won a key
specialist valve and actuator maintenance contract for the NC Production Operations Company BV (NCPOC) in Atyrau Kazakhstan for the Kashagan fi eld development. The three year contract, with potential for an additional two years, is to provide original equipment manufacturing (OEM) specialist support to NCPOC for their critical valve applications. Weir will be working closely with the client’s reliability, maintenance and engineering specialists while supervising and training their teams on valve maintenance and service techniques onshore and offshore. The largest oilfi eld discovery since the 1960s, NCPOC is one of four partners in the production sharing agreement for the Kazakhstan Kashagan fi eld. It is also one of the world’s most challenging
environments. The project has been subject to delays but phase one is now complete and NCPOC will be responsible for production operations including maintenance and operations of all phases of the development. It is forecast at its peak to eventually produce 1.5m barrels of oil per day.
Robert Hancock, regional general
manager commented, “We are delighted to have been selected to deliver this strategic contract on behalf of NCPOC. Throughout the pre-qualifi cation and tender stage the close collaboration with our colleagues in Power & Industrial was key to demonstrating the engineering capability that Weir can deliver. It shows the value that Weir can bring to customer operations, with our Group-wide OEM capability used to provide engineering solutions as part of a local service offering.”
