ACQUISITION UPDATES/CONTRACTS
Weir Oil & Gas welcomes Mathena to its pressure control group
A chilly day in El Reno, Oklahoma marked the beginning of Mathena’s journey as a Weir Group business as John Jameson, pressure control president, welcomed Mathena employees to Weir Oil & Gas’ pressure control group. The Mathena acquisition completed regulatory review on 31 December 2012. Mathena accelerates Weir’s vision of
creating a Tier-1 provider of surface pressure control equipment and services to upstream onshore unconventional markets along with the Seaboard product line. In addition to extending Weir’s market by over US$500m, the business expands Weir’s presence in the large US drilling market and broadens its pressure control customer base.
Mathena further balances exposure between the Oil & Gas Division’s pressure pumping and pressure control operations and enables Weir to:
• Provide pressure control solutions across the drilling, completion and production lifecycles;
LGE Process sold to Babcock
Weir Mathena facility in El Reno, Oklahoma, USA
• Accelerate the growth of the business through Weir’s extensive North American and international footprint; • Benefit from the technology requirements of increasing environmental and safety regulation; • Cross-sell a broader pressure control portfolio to the enlarged complementary customer base
Integration is well underway, with Bill Tipton, vice-president, divisional business development, taking the role of integration manager. Mathena executives and Weir counterparts have begun working together to develop and implement a strategic plan to accelerate growth for the Mathena product line.

Geothermal plant order for Turkey
Weir Minerals Floway has been awarded a contract to supply pumps for a major
Turkish expansion project. The pumps are for the Maren energy expansion project in Izmir, supplying pentane to a multi-speed generator that produces electricity for surrounding towns. The business recently supplied a total of 10
vertical turbine barrel pumps to the geothermal plant. All of the pumps were built to the American Petroleum Institute specifications and constructed of special materials. Floway’s field service department was on site for a week in October 2012 to assist with start-up and plant maintenance training.
