Industry News In brief...
Following a progress review of the Löfstedt Report one year on, Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) head of policy and public affairs, Richard Jones, has voiced his concerns about the government’s plans to change health and safety regulations. He said, “We are disappointed that Professor Löfstedt has not taken this opportunity to voice strong concerns about the speed and scale of the review implementation raised by IOSH and others, and to urge a gov- ernment rethink. “IOSH believes a number of the Löfstedt recommendations to be conceptually flawed - i.e. we believe that where there are misperceptions, it is these that need to change and not the law.”

The recently agreed harmonised standard for technical insulation products includes a new European fire classification which includes an assessment for smoke develop- ment and the burning droplets associated with insulation materi- als in the event of fire. With this in mind, Armacell has announced that its Armaflex Ultima product range has achieved a fire class BL -s1, d0 (in tube form, or B –s2, d0 in sheet form) rating within the harmonised technical insulation materials classification. This new product exhibits ten times less smoke development compared to a standard elas- tomeric product, as well as exhibit- ing zero tolerance toward the development of burning droplets or particles in fire conditions.
