Wieland’s VPN Industrial Routers
launch of its VPN routers and VPN portal Wie- Service24. For Internet-based remote maintenance the user requires a VPN router at the plant or machine, a secure connection through the internet (a VPN tunnel), a service portal to act as a ‘manager’ and a VPN client on the PC’s of people who want remote access to their systems or machines. Wieland’s VPN industrial routers enable a secure and encrypted Internet access towards the monitored plant and machinery either via the customers IT network or mobile communication. The VPN service portal is the exchange between the plant and machinery on the one side and service technicians on the other side with both sides building up only outgoing connections towards the portal. This application is extremely secure and, in addition, the portal allows easy operation via a simple user interface.

Easy Mounting IML Lock eases Maintenance of Valves and Actuators
mith Flow Control (SFC) has introduced its ISO-pattern IML intermediate lock with universal mounting. The IML lock uses an operating key to lock the actuator in an open or closed position so that the valve cannot turn -- no matter what. No custom brackets are required; any valve or actuator with ISO standard mountings is compatible with the IML lock. In normal operations, actuated valves respond to process commands in a pre- determined way. But during maintenance, the command architecture may need to be stopped. Ensuring that the valves are set in their failsafe position enables work to be done safely. The IML intermediate lock is available as a key-operated system from the control room or as a standalone lock-out system. Lock Boxes are available with base tags that match up to each lock-out key for ease of identification. The IML lock is made of sturdy 3/16” stainless steel built for harsh environments. All ISO 5211 patterns –F05, F07, F10, F12, F14, and F16 – are covered by the IML’s six models.

Crowcon’s IRmax Infrared Hydrocarbon Gas Detector Certified to SIL 2
C
rowcon’s IRmax infrared hydrocarbon gas detector has been certified to SIL 2 by Sira Test and Certification Ltd according to the requirements of the IEC 61508 and EN50402 functional safety
standards. This certification provides 3rd party assurance of the integrity and dependability of the IRmax and allows it to be included as part of a SIL 2 safety system. According to Sira, the IEC 61508 functional safety standard “provides the assurance that the safety- related systems will offer the necessary risk reduction required to achieve safety for the equipment”. The EN50402 takes the general requirements of IEC 61508 and extends them by applying them specifically to gas detection equipment. During the six month certification process, Sira scrutinised every detail of the IRmax’s design – from hardware and electronics to software – against the required standards to achieve SIL 2 certification. The product was performance tested according to EN60079-29-1 and documentation for the product (specifications, software structure) were also assessed to ensure compliance with the strict requirements of the standards.

Weidmüller’s DC-UPS safeguards against mains power failures for up to 30 minutes at 40 A
keeps safety functions, process controls and communications up and running for a defined period of time. If a power outage occurs at the system input, the DC-UPS reliably provides 24V to the automated components, without interruption, for a pre-defined period of time. This way, machinery and systems can be switched to a defined status or even continue to operate without change. The maintenance-free buffer module is perfect for short interruptions in the range of several 100 milliseconds; depending on usage, customers can get a life time of up to 10 years from the device. The UPS controller, in connection with a battery module, bridges longer mains power failures safely and reliably. This module provides power up to 40 A for 30 minutes or 1 A for 30 hours, depending on the requirement. The temperature compensated charging feature ensures a long battery life. Four finely graded battery modules between 3.4 and 17 Ah offer a tailored solution.

The Weidmüller DC-UPS controllers can be installed adjacent to one other, so they take up only 66 mm of width in the cabinet. TÜV certification and the upcoming cURus, cULus approvals facilitate the use of these products around the world. A complete DC-UPS system can be assembled with the UPS controller, the corresponding battery module and the primary power supply. The system provides "back-up power" for automation components in the range of minutes or hours. The modular setup facilitates division of the total load into "unsecured" and "secured" load circuits, so that a smaller UPS can often be utilised. The UPS controllers from Weidmüller feature a convenient status indicator and range settings for custom-fit usage. In addition to the three relay contacts, there are three active transistor outputs available to easily wire an external monitoring unit. What is more, every signal output can be inverted using a DIP switch, ideal for the adaptation to the existing logic. A control input to the battery lock (interlock) makes it possible to freely switch between the UPS and the battery, ensuring technicians can safely work on the controls during service calls. Weidmüller offers a range of battery modules from 3.4 to 17 Ah, equipped with high-quality, maintenance-free AGM VRLA batteries. The temperature sensors
integrated into the battery module can be connected to the DC-UPS via the "temp" input. The DC-UPS then measures the battery temperature and automatically conducts charging voltage according to the temperature compensated charging recognition, which maximises the battery lifetime. There is a charge indicator along with status and error indicators for quick error analysis. The UPS controllers are equipped with innovative charge and discharge monitors. Protective mechanisms against over discharge and deep discharge, reverse polarity and power overload have been implemented. There are currently four battery variants available (24V DC 3.4 Ah/ 7.2 Ah/ 12 Ah/ 17 Ah). The UPS controller, in both the 24V 20A/10A and 24V 40A variants, and the DC BUFFER 24V 20A buffer module, are suitable for use in broad temperature ranges of -25 C to 70 C and can be installed without space between the units. For both variants of UPS controller, four LEDs visually notify the users on site of the following information, among others: battery fill level (tricolour LED, 100% = green; <85% = yellow; <40% = red; <20% flashing red), buffers (yellow LED), alarm (red LED) and switched off (yellow LED). The three status signals (alarm/buffers/charge) can be transmitted for remote monitoring using volt free relay contacts and additional transistor outputs. The ConnectPower DC-UPS facilitates the use of these products in different applications, supported by its TÜV certification and upcoming international
approvals (cURus, cULus). Weidmüller
