New analyser for the oil and gas industry
A new portable gas analyser designed for the oil and gas indus- try has been introduced by AMETEK to determine the energy (BTU) content of natural gas. The Model 292B Natural Gas Chromatograph features a fully integrated sample handling system, a rugged gas chromatograph (GC) module and enhanced data pro- cessing and handling capabilities - including an LCD colour display and user interface. IPRmax certified to SIL 2
Emissions technology at AQE 2013
Crowcon’s IRmax infrared hydrocarbon gas detector has been certified to SIL 2 by Sira Test and Certification according to the requirements of the IEC 61508 and EN 50402 functional safety standards. This certification provides third party assurance of the integrity and dependability of the IRmax and allows it to be included as part of a SIL 2 safety system. According to Sira, the IEC 61508 functional safety standard ‘provides the assurance that the safety related systems will offer the necessary risk reduction required to achieve safety for the equipment’.
The EN 50402 (Electrical apparatus for the detection and measurement of combustible or toxic gases or vapours or of oxygen - requirements on the functional safety of fixed gas detection systems) takes the general requirements of IEC 61508 and extends them by applying them specifically to gas detection equipment. During the six month certification process, Sira scrutinised the IRmax’s design against
the required standards to achieve SIL 2 certification. The product was performance test- ed according to EN 60079-29-1 and documentation for the product (specifications, soft- ware structure), as well as Crowcon’s quality management systems, were also assessed to ensure compliance with the strict requirements of the standards. Detection made easier with new App Stay one step ahead with the Tango
A new web App released by Groveley Detection has enabled engineers to quickly determine approximately how many Groveley Incus ultra- sonic gas leak detectors would be needed to monitor a process area. The App allows the user to input plant size, area of coverage, gas pressure, gas temperature and background ultrasonic noise levels. It indicates approximately how many Incus detectors are required to protect a hazardous area under given circumstances. The App is a first step before embarking on an ultrasonic mapping survey to monitor background ultrasonic noise levels and determine optimum position- ing of the detectors - which is always advisable when utilising UGLDs. Ultrasonic/acoustic gas detectors detect gas leaks by ‘hearing’ the sound generated by escaping gas, rather than responding to specific measurements of LEL or ppm. Industrial Scientific has introduced the Tango TX1 single gas monitor to help enhance the safety of workers. A three year run time and DualSense Technology increases worker safety, regardless of bump test frequency, while reducing overall maintenance costs. The Tango detects carbon monoxide (CO), hydrogen sulfide (H2 (SO2
) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2
S), sulfur dioxide ), and the
DualSense Technology includes two of the same type of sensor for the detection of a single gas. The two sensor readings are processed through a proprietary algorithm and displayed as a single reading to the user. DualSense Technology was developed to address the major challenge of making sure workers are always using fully func- tioning, reliable instruments in the field. It is powered by one replaceable 2/3AA lithium battery that will power it continu- ously for up to three years even if the instru- ment is being used in the optional ‘always on’ mode. After the battery can no longer support instrument life, it can be easily replaced for another three years of continu- ous operation. The Tango TX1 has a three year instrument warranty, three year carbon CO and H2S sensor warranty, and two year warranty on the SO2 and NO2 sensors.
Industrial Compliance SPRING 2013
The Tango is compatible with iNet, Industrial Scientific’s Gas Detection as a Service solution. iNet is a software-based service that increases safety by providing visibility into gas detector alarms, expo- sure and usage. With iNet, customers do not have to buy gas detectors. Instead, they can subscribe to iNet and receive Gas Detection as a Service. Industrial Scientific

ABB will be using the Air Quality and Emissions (AQE) Show at the Telford International Centre (13th- 14th March 2013), to showcase its range of air and gas analysers. Products on the stands (47 and 48) will include the LS25 laser gas analyser and the new Endura AZ10 zirconia oxygen and StackFlowMaster instruments. There will also be examples from ABB’s EasyLine EL3000 range of photometers for gas analysis, plus the ACF-NT analysers.
ABB will also be hosting two workshops covering key issues affecting the deployment of gas analysers in industrial applications. ABB
