Feature Event Preview Learning and launches

Learning opportunities and innovation will be a central theme at the MAINTEC exhibition taking place at the NEC, Birmingham, on 5th-7th March. Industrial Compliance magazine takes a look at what’s on offer for the maintenance, plant and asset management community

show floor, leading experts and practi- tioners from many of the UK’s brightest companies will explore how they are addressing the hottest maintenance issues of the day.

A

Each day the conference will address a different strategic theme. On day one the focus is on ‘Making the Business Case for Maintenance’. This includes a session that will explore successful maintenance strategies - and how to choose the right one for your business. The same day, there will also be a ses- sion that looks into the merits of control maintenance versus a reactive mainte- nance operation.

The theme for day two is ‘Innovation in Action’ which will look at the latest effective methodologies and high impact technologies. In addition, when it comes to condi- tion-based monitoring, is an evolution- ary or revolutionary approach to implementation best? Which assets and equipment should be included? Any

new feature for the MAINTEC exhibition in 2013 will be the Business Strategy Conference. Held in a special theatre on the

attendees struggling with these and other questions will get the chance to learn first hand from Dr Sethuraman Muthuraman, condition monitoring engineer, Scottish & Southern Energy. ‘People, processes and legacy’ sit at the heart of good maintenance man- agement and so appropriately day three focuses on these elements. Opening proceedings, keynote speaker, Graham Darch, regional engi- neering manager, Britvic, will outline how the company manages the impact of new processes and KPI reports on maintenance staff. In a highly practical talk he will also cover the usability and access issues faced when rolling- out new devices and equipment to a mobile work force.

Also on the show floor will be The Maintenance Exchange featuring a pro- gramme of 38 learnShops. Delivered by some of the show’s exhibitors, these practical sessions will provide visitors with an insight into the latest innova- tions, products and services to be found within the maintenance and asset man- agement arena.

These free learning opportunities will run alongside the exhibition itself. James Walker, Decksafe Solutions, AW Chesterton, Metool, SAACKE Combustion, Intertek,

Keytracker, REBO BV, MOLYDAL Lubricants, Lubricus Grutzner and Ernst Schad are just some of the many names, from both the UK and overseas, making their MAINTEC debut. They will join MAINTEC vet- erans such as Schaeffler (UK), Flowcrete UK, R.Stahl, ERIKS, Idhammar Systems, SPM Instruments, PRUFTECHNIK and Prevost UK.

Many are using the show to launch new products or showcase their very latest work. Some of these are high- lighted below: BEKO Technologies will be outlin- ing how it has helped one of the largest car manufacturing plants in the UK replace its old dryers and thus reduce running costs significantly and improve air quality.

Thermal Energy International will show how a FLU-ACE Condensing Heat Recovery System which it imple- mented for Premier Foods, saved the company £110,000 per year, which is approximately 7.5 million kWh of annual gas savings. First time exhibitor, SAACKE Combustion, recently helped Harveys Brewery improve the operation of its boiler plant. SAACKE recommended fitting a burner with a superior turn- down, thus allowing the boiler to match the site’s steam demand - mas- sively improving efficiency. Among the other companies making their show debut will be Hansford Sensors. The company will be showcasing its new HS-109 Triaxial accelerometer which allows three axes to be monitored simulta- neously, plus a new version of the company’s spot facing tool, which has been re-engineered to further extend its operating life.

Maintaining reliable RH measure- ments in harsh or corrosive environ- ments is notoriously difficult as the conditions themselves degrade the sensors and equipment - often in short time periods. Michell Instruments will be showing how its DT722 RH and temperature transmitter provide a solution to this problem.

In addition, there will be a demon- stration of Schaeffler FAG WiPro’s con- dition monitoring system for wind turbines. Via a ‘live’ remote link to a wind farm based in Scotland, visitors will be able to see in real time how the main rotor bearings, gearbox and gener- ators on five wind turbines are being monitored 24/7. Fluke UK will show its Fluke CNX
