COMMUNITY CHALLENGE

Make a difference in 2013

We are delighted to announce that BSEE and Baxi Commercial Division are collaborating once again to offer one lucky reader the chance to help out their community! If you know of a local voluntary funded organisation that operates out of a building with poor heating and/or hot water provision, you could help them by entering the 2013 Baxi Community Challenge to win a commercial sized central heating boiler or water heater.

he winner could be any one of a diverse number of organisations from a scout/guide hut, a recreation field pavilion, a band hut, a youngsters’ football changing facility, a children’s arts and crafts recycling centre, a village museum, club halls and many more. But if you don’t put them forward we won’t know about them and they will miss out on this tremendous opportunity.

are not restricted to registered charities and we would be happy to hear about any community projects where new space heating and/or hot water provision would make a real difference to the people using the building.

Baxi Commercial Division offers one of the broadest ranges of commercial high efficiency condensing boilers and direct fired water heaters, together with compatible low and zero carbon solutions, currently available in the UK.

The 2012 winner

The winner of the 2012 Community Challenge was Mossley Scouts & Guides, for whom Baxi Commercial Division was able to make an immediate difference by donating a new constant flow type direct gas-fired condensing water heater.

This

equipment is the last piece in the jigsaw of what has been a protracted refurbishment project due to the entire dependence of this organisation on the good will of the local community for funds and time.

The winning building was erected over 100 years ago as a public house and later became a Boy’s Club until the Mossley Scouts and Guides, Brownies and Cubs, Rainbows and Beavers Fundraising Committee acquired it as the troops’ Headquarters in 1989. The renamed Baden House was by this time in very poor condition so the committee immediately embarked upon a successive round of fundraising activities which continued over the years with the aim of bringing the building and facilities up to an acceptable standard fit for purpose.

continued and a second phase of improvements was begun in 2010 when two rooms were created on the ground floor for new toilets with a shower area.

“The fundraising has

Earlier this year the toilets and wash basins, with cold water supply only, were installed and a kitchen area was created. The fundraising efforts have continued throughout the summer in the hope that we may be able to complete these improvements, which will include installing showers and fitting out the kitchen, before winter sets in. The donation of a water heater through the Baxi Community Challenge was key to these facilities becoming fully operational.”

“These improved facilities, with a reliable supply of hot water, will enable all groups to hold coffee evenings and other fundraising events. We also envisage being able to offer the use of the building for community events, such as children’s parties, thus providing a low cost venue for our families and a small additional income towards the upkeep of Baden House.

“The girls and boys are as involved in the fundraising activities and general upkeep of the building as all of our leaders, helpers and committee members give their time and wherever possible, their skilled labour voluntarily. On behalf of us all I would like to thank BSEE and Baxi Commercial Division for giving us the opportunity to benefit from this Baxi Community Challenge initiative.”

Requirements for entry

If you think that you know of a good cause who could also benefit then don’t delay. It will cost you nothing financially to enter the competition and your involvement in terms of time need be nothing beyond completing the entry form. Your application can be on behalf of any worthy cause that operates from a building which needs a new ‘commercial- sized’ gas- fired water heater or boiler however please note that the building must have a suitable gas supply – it may therefore be a good idea to ask the advice of a competent heating engineer for guidance when completing your application form (although this isn’t essential).

Please ensure that you provide all of the information which is requested below and then wait for us to contact you. Entries must be received by the end of March and we will feature some of the applicants in subsequent issues of BSEE before announcing the winner later in the year.
