Manufacturers develop DMR Tier III-based console interface

T

ait Communications has announced that its DMR Tier III off ering

now supports Zetron dispatch solutions. Engineered in partnership with

Zetron, and designed to work with Zetron’s Acom Advanced Communication and MAX Dispatch systems, it is the fi rst console interface able to connect to a standards-based DMR Tier III trunked network. “T is is all about off ering our customers greater choice”, said Trevor Laughton, chief technolo- gy offi cer at Tait. “It also demon- strates our genuine and ongoing commitment to providing open standards-based solutions that unlock enduring value for our customers through compatibility with a variety of vendors.” As Category 1 DMR Associa- tion members, Tait and Zetron

ITU accepts GoTa digital standard

Z

TE has announced that the GoTa (Global open

Trunking architecture) digital trunking standard submitted by China has been accepted by the ITU (International Telecommunications Union) report at the ITU conference in Geneva. It was jointly developed by ZTE and Chinese national research departments. “It is very signifi cant that

Tait’s manufacturing facility based in Christchurch, New Zealand

are both working on the Ap- plications Interface Specifi cation (AIS) that defi nes the standard for interfacing with conventional and trunked networks that are DMR standards-based. Kathy Broadwell, Zetron vice

president of product manage- ment, added: “We are very pleased that this partnership with

Tait has produced a DMR inter- face that will expand customers’ fl exibility and options. “Because the new interface

works with Zetron’s Acom and MAX Dispatch systems, we are now able to off er DMR-based so- lutions that support small to large organizations in a wide variety of markets.”

Radio deal for Norwegian police T

he Norwegian police service has selected Sepura radios to fulfi l the landmark fi rst

tranche of a nationwide project to renew the radio communications system. The Nødnett (emergency network) contract,

which covers the fi rst two phases of the project, was awarded to VHF Communication AS, Sepura’s long- standing partner in Norway. In August 2012, the Norwegian Directorate for

Public Safety Radio Emergency Communication (DNK) signed agreements with three suppliers of radio terminals for use on its network. These agreements entitled the suppliers to tender for the successive phases of the nationwide rollout. VHF won the police tender for the fi rst three phases of the Nødnett rollout (including the greater Oslo area) and will be the sole supplier of radio terminals for Phases 1 and 2. This will include Sepura’s recently-launched STP9000 hand- portable radios, as well the SRG3900 mobile radio, which will be installed in cars, boats and motorbikes in a variety of confi gurations. The radios will be used by selected police districts and were chosen because of their robustness, usability and high quality. Commenting on the deal, Lars-Magnus

Gustafsson, Sepura’s business development manager for Scandinavia, said: “This is an important step for

Sepura. We are already market leaders in Sweden and Denmark, so it is not surprising that the quality, reliability and excellent feature-set that Sepura’s radios offer appealed to the Norwegian police. “Our partners in both these markets are part of the

GoTa has been accepted as an international standard”, said Lang Baozhen, from the China Academy of Telecommunication Research (CATR) at the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. “GoTa enters the fi eld of digital trunking which has so far been dominated by other companies, and is a major advertisement for the industry-leading innovations coming out of the Chinese mobile communications industry. GoTa becoming an international standard will help increase the reputation of the Chinese mobile communications sector in the international arena.” Xie Daxiong, senior vice president of ZTE, added:

“Cooperating with global industry colleagues, ZTE are willing to promote GoTa digital trunking cluster technology development, and make more contributions for the world’s communication industry.” GoTa was approved as

a Chinese digital trunking standard by the China Ministry of Industry in 2008. It is based on 3G technology, and can be evolved to the next generation of broadband, multimedia-based digital trunking technology. GoTa networks are working

in more than 40 countries worldwide including Norway, Russia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Ghana and Morocco, covering more than 100 industries.
