Compared to the last couple of years 2012 was good. Business stepped up in the last quarter and we found lenders relaxing, being more flexible, listening and wanting to lend, rather than looking for excuses not to lend. We do lots of mortgages and a lot of buy-to-let. But in the last few weeks of 2012 we saw good deals for first-time buyers, even 95%, which had been unheard of.


The length of time it took for some lenders to get an offer was still frustrating, but I think they are addressing the problem and we’ve noticed an improvement recently.

I work within estate agents and it’s been a lot better than last year. They’re getting more enquiries and so I’m getting more introductions.

It’s still difficult, but recently there’s been a surge in the number of competitive products. This gave me the opportunity to go to clients on SVRs to look for a new deal. Remortgage business has improved and buyers are also becoming more confident. There are great deals around but I’ve found low valuations frustrating. I understand surveyors have to protect themselves but their caution is a stumbling block in an already difficult market.


I’ve concentrated on mortgages in the past and can’t say protection was a core part of my business. However, Pink’s protection seminars opened my eyes; I’m looking after my clients properly now, doing a more complete job and protection sales added to our growth. Looking back things have improved little by little, year-on-year. Looking forward I’m very positive.

Inspire’s main focus is on personal protection for their clients. As a young company established in 2010, we have grown every year, but 2012 was especially successful. We work with various local partners including estate agents, accountants and solicitors and constantly receive recommendations from our existing clients which has expanded our client base and guaranteed a steady increase of customers.

Although people are more aware of the need to protect themselves, their family, home and income, we still spend time educating our clients, determining a budget and ensuring they have the best protection to meet their needs. All of our work is face to face with our clients. Anticipating a change in the protection industry after G-day we have struck up relationships with mortgage firms in the new build market. This will give us access to a new client base in 2013, many of whom will be taking protection for the first time, which we’re really excited about.
