Nearly 1,800 athletes embark on the longest racing day of their season — the Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. Tough conditions made the Oct. 13 event even more challenging in 2012, but Australian Pete Jacobs and Great Britain’s Leanda Cave topped the men’s and women’s fields to earn their first Kona wins.
