POPULAR COFFEE shop-come-bike workshop Look Mum no Hands has been taking on a novel way to drum up business through the ‘coffee amnesty’ initiative (#coffeeamnesty). The independent was offering anyone with a full or empty cup of coffee from one of the High Street coffee chains a free cup of independently produced coffee. On the first amnesty morning, Look Mum No Hands persuaded no less than 50 punters to ditch their berage in favour of coffee from the shop. The shop said: “Responding to our arguments that small independents like us pay our taxes, look after our staff, keep money in the local economy and our coffee is much better, 50 people surrendered their Starbucks for Square Milecoffee.com.” www.lookmumnohands.com

THIS YEAR’S Out of the Saddle fundraiser, the fourth ever, was the biggest yet, with 260 guests attending the ‘Evening with the Downing Brothers’ charity cash generator. The Downings were joined by Tour of Britain winner Jonathan Tiernan-Locke, Ben Swift and gold medallist Ed Clancy. As usual there were one-of-a-kind lots to bid for, including Tiernan-Locke’s signed Tour of Britain gold jersey. The evening raised £7,000, which was dedicated to cancer fundraisers Brothers on Bikes. Eurosport’s David Harmon compered the Q&A sessions. www.outofthesaddle.org.uk
