EXTRA, PALIGAP, Hardnutz and a number of new exhibitors have signed up to appear at the second Irish Cycling Show, taking place in March.
The show will take place at a new
venue – City West Conference Centre in Dublin – boasting strong transport links with the M50 motorway and LUAS for easy access, according to show organiser Mara Media. The show will be running earlier than the first edition too – over the weekend of March 9th and 10th, 2013. As well as new and returning exhibitors
for 2013, there’ll be lower entrance prices, free car parking and more. Animal Bike Tour will be the star ‘Stunt
Show’ attraction for 2013 while freestyle BMX rider Keelan Philips will return. Other special guests will be announced over the coming months, with show organiser Mara Media telling BikeBiz at time of press that it is weeks away from announcing its main celebrity guest.
“A show for Ireland is a great opportunity to meet trade customers old and new.”

Cycle clothing competition hots up By Jonathon Harker
A BRACE of new clothing brands have joined the growing cycle clothing sector; Carbonaut and Veleco. The two are only the most recent to join the thriving sector. Midlands-made brand Velobici is approaching its first year in the business, while Vulpine (see page 74) is about to hit its first 12 months of cycle wear production. Meanwhile established players in the clothing market – like Spiro – has grown its cycle wear range after dipping its toe into the sector last year. Carbonaut has launched a casual wear
range designed for wear out of the saddle. The Bristol-based firm’s range includes items for men and women, inspired by the tailored fit and technical features of a
cycling jersey. Items include long-sleeved jerseys, supersoft hooded tops and a classic polo t-shirt. The range is a alternative to baggier fabrics and shapes. Details typical of the range include high zipped collars, dropped tails and secure phone pockets at the rear, the garments showcasing a carbonised finish, woven chambray trim and subtle branding. Carbonaut founder Paul Skuse said:
“We identified that there was a real lack of casual wear options available to cyclists once off the bike. For us, being a cyclist means so much more than just riding, racing and training and we wanted to encapsulate this in the casual market.” The autumn winter range includes the
Café Vélo Hoody and Breakaway Jersey. Also hitting the casual market,
Brighton-based Veloco initially planned
to sell direct to consumer-only, but due to demand will also sell to independent bike shops and websites.
The ethical-wear label has an Urban-
Eco collection for men and women, featuring a Softshell Re:Cycle Jacket made from 12 recycled plastic bottles and organic cotton cycling t-shirts, hoods, cycle caps and musette bags. All the garments are made using Fair
Trade, ethical and eco-friendly principles, making the firm one of the most ethical cyclewear firms in the world, it said. Johnathan Lewis, Veleco co-founder commented: “There are so many exciting things happening in cycling at present, from the increase in urban cycling to innovative new brands like ourselves coming to market.”
