Metal roof and roof accessories defi ne rail line


The Central Corridor Light Rail Transit Civil East in St. Paul, Minn., was completed in Novem- ber 2012. The more than $2 million project includes 14 stations and was designed by Minneapolis-based architect, AECOM. Adolfson & Peterson, Minneapolis, served as the general contractor, and the Metropol- itan Council of St. Paul owns the entire complex. The metal features of the project include 31,248 square feet of Double Lock standing seam roof panels in 16-ounce copper and 31,668 square feet of Soldered Hook seam panels in 20-ounce copper by MG McGrath, Maplewood, Minn. MG McGrath was the metal fabricator, installer, and manufacturer for the project and also installed 55, 792 square feet of Trim and Built in gutters in 20-ounce copper. MG McGrath installed Cambridge, Mass.-based Grace Construction Products’ Ice and Water Shield over the plywood substrate for the Double Lock panels. The project was a challenge due to the expedited schedule and the need to fi nish certain stations on

building system creates residential hangar


The Atha Hangar in Benton, Kan., is an 8,000-square-foot, 80- by 100-foot metal build- ing. The hangar is attached to a 4,000-square- foot home. Behlen Building Systems, Columbus, Neb., supplied its Behlen ADP-1 screw down pitch gabled roof in Patrician Bronze with a 4:12 pitch and a 60-foot single slope off the house. Behlen also supplied ADP-2 wall panel system in Surrey Beige and Watertown, S.D.-based Enercept provided its Structural Insulated Panels (SIPS). The hangar also features a 60- by 16-foot hydraulic hangar door from PowerLift, Lake Ben- ton, Minn. In addition to the hangar, the building also contains a shop, RV storage area and four- car garage.

both ends before work on other stations started. There were 14 different stations along a seven-mile-long track with very limited access. The project used approximately 8,500 pounds of solder. Every hook seam panel that was installed needed to be pre- tinned on all four sides prior to fi nishing fabrication to insure a quality solder joint.
