Price is right for ORR
The Office of Rail Regulation (ORR) has named Alan Price as its new director of railway performance. He is currently FirstGroup’s rail division’s infrastructure director, with a career history that includes roles at London Underground, Metronet and Bechtel.
Chief executive Richard Price said: ‘I am delighted that Alan
Price is joining us at this crucial time for the rail industry. ‘Alan will bring to ORR very substantial railway experience, and a deep understanding of the issues facing the industry, particularly on asset management and infrastructure delivery.’
Top chef to work with Eurostar
Michelin starred chef Raymond Blanc has joined Eurostar as culinary director. twith Eurostar’s catering suppliers to help transform travellers’ perceptions of on-board catering.

Locke is new chair of TravelWatch
London TravelWatch, the independent watchdog for transport users in the London area, has named Stephen Locke as its new chair. He has worked with a wide range of boards and senior management groups, both as an executive and a non-executive. He currently serves as vice chair of Consumer Focus and as chair of the Advertising Advisory Committee of the Broadcast Committee of Advertising Practice, which sets rules for radio and television adverts.

Interfleet Technology has added three new members to its Advanced Rail Control Systems (ARCS) team. Senior consultants Martin Fenner and Ken Chan will be joined by Stephen Head, who has just completed Interfleet’s Graduate Development Scheme. Fenner’s previous roles include that of signal engineer on the Neasden Depot Re- signalling project for London Underground and project engineer for Metronet Rail. He holds a masters degree in information systems engineering from Imperial College. Ken Chan began work as a graduate trainee for London Underground, spending the last five years on the Victoria Line Upgrade as an ATC testing and commissioning engineer.

Hitachi Rail Europe, manufacturer of high speed trains, has reshuffled its senior management team now that the contract for the Hitachi Super Express trains has been finalised. Alistair Dormer has stepped up to the role of executive chairman and chief executive officer, having been with the company for almost 10 years. Chairman Chiaki Ueda is retiring and returning to his native Japan. Keith Jordan will continue his role as managing director, with Hirofumi Ojima joining the company as chief strategy officer. Andy Barr has been appointed senior vice president and head of projects, operations and maintenance. In addition to his continued accountability for the maintenance business, Barr will have overall responsibility for planning and delivery of major projects, including the Hitachi Super Express trains, which will replace the ageing High Speed Trains. Russell Hargrave will support Barr as head of maintenance, along with Ross Cunningham, who joins the company as depot delivery manager. Finally, Jamie Foster has joined the company as procurement director, while Darren Cumner is now the manufacturing plant manager. Alistair Dormer, said: ‘With the close of contract of the Intercity Express Programme, we reached a major milestone and will now concentrate on delivering the programme in the same way we delivered the Class 395 – on time and to budget. ‘We have ambitious growth targets for Hitachi Rail Europe in the UK and in continental Europe and the new leadership team will be fully focused on delivering these with the help of our highly committed colleagues.’
