Newcastle, Bletchley, Doncaster and Saltley depots during pre-planned campaigns for protection. They offer an advanced warning of approaching trains towards the worksite that ensures the safety of all on site personnel working around a train that is over 800 yards in length.


It is this LOWS controller who deploys the SSOW at the commencement of each shift, who installs the warning units at strategically predetermined positions along the safe cess, to ensure that the audible 106Db warning and rotating lights are clearly visible and heard throughout the works.


Automatic track warning systems With an award-winning planning team and more than 100 years of combined experience and knowledge of installation and operation within a dedicated team of full time employed staff, RSS provides ATWS to the tier one and two railway companies that provide advanced warning of trains on the adjacent line open to the worksite. This enables the principal contractors to leave our railway open 24/7 with limited closure of lines and unnecessary disruption to the train operating companies. From major renewals projects to a staff crossing point, ATWS offers a guaranteed approach of trains by way of audible and visual warnings. Hard-wired or radio graphic systems are available and the most cost effective solution is always offered to the client.


On-track safety


A new innovation in on-track safety, RSS delivers a service for our customers by providing competent and trained staff to deploy the equipment that has replaced traditional track circuit operating devices. RSS protection controllers and LOWS controllers are trained by the


manufacturer on the deployment of the unit with a competence assessed by the skilled delivery team. Line blockages are pre-booked by the client and the equipment is installed by RSS in communication with the controlling signal box.


IBJ project


The labour team has recently delivered the IBJ installation and recovery project for ACJV over a tight 22-week period, with weekly targets which were met and surpassed to ensure smooth delivery and no requirement for any snagging works. The dedicated team met all the challenges of the project, despite the recent problems in delivery of engineering trains. The team had to work around the S&T testing and wheels-free weekends, delivering on time and to budget. RSS, under the guidance of AMG is rapidly developing its one-stop-shop approach for client delivery, the increased need for adjacent open line working in the future and the realisation that the use of ATWS and LOWS delivers a safer


worksite, at or below the same cost of traditional flags and whistles (but with less manpower) is the way forward in workforce protection. With a true apprenticeship model, where a mentoring and competency development matrix is applied, RSS is building and retaining the skilled workers, technicians and managers of the future.
