Each year PTA-UK runs a number of free events, for PTA volunteers throughout the country. Our workshop programme for the 2012-13 academic year is now in full swing. The events, facilitated by one of our highly experienced local advisers are a hot-bed of ideas, an information exchange like no other, simply two-hours of fast-paced good practice advice and knowledge gathering. Fundraising is always a key topic of discussion; here we give you an insight into the wisdom of our members on the subject of raising money without holding an event.

Recycling

 In this day and age muck really is brass; you can turn nearly anything into cash from textiles to tin and everything in between. Check out PTA-UK’s Suppliers’ Directory.

The power of the internet

Asking your school to install a charity search engine, such as easysearch.org.uk or everyclick.com could mean that every click your pupils make will be raising money for your PTA. Extend this to other supporters and you could soon see a regular income for doing nothing. Asking your supporters to shop online through easyfundraising.org.uk will also generate regular income which could be quite substantial. See our feature on page 13 for more information.

Arts and crafts

There are a plethora of companies that can put your pupils’ talents to good use and help you bring in the cash. A quick Google search will give you a number of companies that make bespoke items using the creativity of your kids, turning everyday items such as mugs, tea- towels and calendars into must-have treasures. Remember to be wise before you buy especially when shopping online; make sure the company is registered, can provide contact information and testimonials from other PTAs.

100 clubs

Running a regular lottery in the form of a 100 club will provide a steady income stream for your PTA. Under the terms of a private lottery it is possible to organise and run a 100 Club without any registration or licence. This is great for secondary schools, a chance for all parents to join in and support the PTA.

Non-uniform days

Great for primary schools, the kids love the chance to come into school in their own clothes and your PTA can raise money in a quick and easy way. Add a theme for added fun – pyjama day, odd or silly sock day and bad hair day are just a few examples.
