Micah Christenson set the U.S. Men’s Junior National Volleyball Team to the gold medal at the NORCECA Men’s Junior Continental Championship held Aug. 27 to Sept. 1 in Colorado Springs, Colo. He earned Best Setter after compiling a tourna- ment-best 5.44 running sets average per set. Christenson helped the Americans convert 217 of 319 attacks for a
55.5 kill percent and .404 hitting effi ciency. Based on the NORCECA fi nish, the U.S. Men’s Junior National Team qualifi ed for the 2013 FIVB Vol- leyball Men’s Junior World Championship.
Kadie Rolfzen paced the U.S. Women’s Junior National Volleyball Team to the bronze medal at the NORCECA Women’s Junior Continental Cham- pionship held Aug. 21-26 in Managua, Nicaragua. She fi n- ished the tournament ranked fi fth in scoring with 65 points, fourth in Best Spiker with a 44.75 kill percent and seventh in Best Server with a 0.50
ace average. In the process, the squad earned a berth into the 2013 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Junior World Championship.
Geena Urango (Los Alamitos, Calif.) Geena Urango, along with beach partner Caitlin Ledoux, captured the gold medal in the USA Volleyball Beach High Performance Champi- onship in the women’s Under 26 Division. The event concluded July 22 at Hermosa Beach, Calif. Earlier in the sum- mer the pair won the USAV IDQ held in June at Playa del Rey, Calif. After reaching the main draw of the Manhat- tan Beach Open in August, the pair competed at the World University Championships held Sept. 12-16 at Maceio, Brazil. For results of the tournament, visit

Carli Snyder (Macomb, Mich.)
Sara Hughes (Costa Mesa, Calif.) Sara Hughes, with beach partner Justine Wong-Orantes, fi nished the USA Volleyball Beach High Performance Champion- ships with the Under 19 gold medal on July 22 at Hermosa Beach, Calif. Just nine days earlier the pair placed ninth
at the FIVB Beach Volleyball Youth World Championships in which they lost to the eventual gold medalists 21-18, 22-20 in the second round. Hughes fi nished her summer with a fourth-place fi nish with Summer Ross at the FIVB Beach Volleyball Women’s Junior World Championships in Halifax.
Carli Snyder was named the most valuable player of the NORCECA Girls’ Youth Continen- tal Championship after leading the U.S. Girls’ Youth National Team to the gold medal in the event held Aug. 5-11 in Tijuana, Mexico. She concluded the tourna- ment ranked second in scoring with 80 points, second in Best Blocker with a 0.59 block average, second in Best Server with a 0.82 ace average and sixth in Best Spiker with a 40.3 kill percent. With the NORCECA title, the U.S. has qualifi ed for the 2013 FIVB Volleyball Girls’ Youth World Championship.

He scored 67 points in the tournament for fi fth among all scorers. He also converted 37.4 percent of his attacks for ninth in
Best Spiker, along with averaging 0.30 aces per set for ninth in Best Server.

Kyle Stevenson (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.)
Kyle Stevenson, along with beach partner Alex Jones, fi nished fi fth at the FIVB Beach Volleyball Junior World Championships that concluded Sept. 2 at Halifax, Canada. The tandem also came away with the title in both the Under 21 and the Under 26 men’s divisions of the USA Volleyball Beach High Performance Championships without dropping a match. The duo later reached the third round of qualifying of the Manhat- tan Beach Open.
Stevenson had also competed at the 2009 FIVB Beach Volleyball Youth World Championships in Turkey.
