ummer Ross, 19, who assembled one of the most heralded junior beach volleyball resumes of all time, made the most out of her fi nal amateur event by winning the World University Championships in Brazil Sept. 12-17 with Emily Day.
Ross announced prior to the event that she would be turning professional this fall and planned to focus on the FIVB Beach Volleyball SWATCH World Tour. In the summer of 2010 Ross was the fi rst player
to win gold medals the same year at both the FIVB Beach Volleyball Junior and Youth World Champion- ships with Tara Roenicke (Junior) and Jane Croson (Youth). Ross also won the inaugural NCAA sand doubles volleyball title with Pepperdine teammate Caitlin Racich in the spring of 2012 and helped the Waves claim the overall team title. Ross also competed in the FIVB Beach Volleyball
Junior World Championships (U-21) in Halifax, Canada, where she fi nished fourth with Sara Hughes. Ross and Hughes won their fi rst fi ve matches be- fore being upended in the semifi nals by eventual gold medalists Nina Betschart and Anouk Verge-Depre of of Switzerland in three sets.

She said she realized then she needs to play against better competition to keep improving her game. She plans to play at the FIVB event in Thailand in No- vember, where she is scheduled to play with Heather Hughes.
