LETTER FROM THE EDITOR More great coverage planned for SKATING magazine The 2012–13 skating season is upon us, with the Junior Grand Prix Series well under way and
2012 Hilton HHonors Skate America starting in a few weeks. At SKATING magazine, we are excited about this campaign for many reasons. At Champs Camp
in late August, we spent a day with our 2012 U.S. champions on a series of photo shoots in down- town Colorado Springs. The athletes seemed to have a good time and, I must say, the pictures from Wendy Nelson of
Blue Fox Photography turned out great. Our cover girl this issue is ladies champ Ashley Wagner, who I’m convinced is incapable of taking a bad picture. The photographs of Ashley capture her sparkling personality and beautiful smile. Ashley was a great sport during the two-hour shoot, although it was hot and she wasn’t feeling
too well. Still, she jumped in there like a pro and took some amazing photographs. As payment, we rewarded her with a couple of ice cream cones toward the end of the session, which she loved. After all, if she wasn’t a fi gure skater she would be a professional ice cream taster. Later this fall and winter, we’ll have cover stories and photo spreads with men’s champion Jere-
my Abbott, pairs titlists Caydee Denney and John Coughlin and ice dancing’s best, Meryl Davis and Charlie White. While they each had individual pictures taken, all the champions took part in a photo shoot to
promote the 2013 Prudential U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Omaha, Neb., where there’s a rich frontier heritage. January’s cover of SKATING magazine captures that pioneer spirit and is one that readers will
undoubtedly enjoy, as our champions are depicted like never before. SKATING magazine is also moving forward with enhancements to its digital edition which can
be found at www.usfi gureskating.org. With the August-September issue, we started embedding video in several of the ads and stories. Find the U.S. junior champion stories featuring Gracie Gold and Nathan Chen and you can
watch their free skates at the 2012 U.S. Championships as well as Gold’s interview with icenetwork. com.
Our advertisers and sponsors are also utilizing this added benefi t, with video promoting their
products and services. Take a few minutes to scroll through the online magazine and click on the video buttons; we think you’ll like it a lot. The SKATING magazine blog also continues to gain traction under the direction of our web
content coordinator Josh Ellis. Later this month, the blog will celebrate its fi rst anniversary. The blog has been a great addition for SKATING readers, with previews and coverage of major
events and ice shows, photo galleries, news and feature stories, competition video and much more. We hope to make the blog even better this season and encourage everyone to make a regular stop at skatingmagazineblog.com.
