Cambridge calling
LEWESTON SCHOOL is celebrating another year of excellent results for its sixth form leavers. Students achieved a 100% pass rate in both A-level and Cambridge Pre-U subjects; 71% of the examinations were passed at A*, A or B grade or Pre-U equivalent, with 51% at A* or A or equivalent, nearly double the national average. An impressive 30% of students achieved three or more straight A* or A grades across a range of subjects with more than 10% of girls achieving five or more A* or A grades. Average UCAS points per candidate were 402, the equivalent of over three A grades per candidate. This year has also seen the third set of strong Cambridge Pre-U
results. All candidates passed at distinction or merit. These results have enabled almost all Leweston’s leavers to win
places at their chosen universities or specialist colleges. A sixth form open afternoon will be held on October 5 at 6pm. Tel: 01963 211010.
Top A-level results for KES Parli Italiano?
THE OUTSTANDING GCSE language grades at The Royal High School, Bath speak volumes for the school’s expertise in, and passion for, modern foreign languages (MFL). The statistics buck the trend, which has seen MFL studies gradually declining. Mandarin tops the ratings at the school as all 13
girls who entered the subject (as non-native speakers) achieved an A* grade. Parli Italiano? It seems that their girls do, perfectly, as in an accelerated GCSE, 10 out of the 11 girls achieved an A* (three girls achieving 100% in their examination, the other an A).
Kymberlie Aloni also embodies The Royal High
School’s love of languages and their exceptional results by achieving 12 A* including A* in Italian, Spanish, French, Latin and Hebrew.
PUPILS FROM King Edward’s School have been celebrating outstanding A-level results, with a 100% pass rate and over 85% of grades at A*-B. Achieving the top grade were 20% of entries, with 58% at A* or A. Forty-two pupils, representing 37% of the cohort, achieved at least one A* grade, with the same number gaining three A grades or better. Nine pupils achieved at least three A* grades. Most importantly, the vast majority of pupils have been successful in securing a place at their first choice of university on exciting courses. Headmaster Martin Boden said:
“For so many of those KES pupils moving on to the next stage in their lives, this has been a fitting end to their journey, and their success, built on talent, hard work and determination, is richly deserved. I congratulate them all and look forward to hearing news of further success in the years to come.”
