FH39 series, top & bottom contact FFC connector from Hirose
The FH39 is the first FFC/FPC connector from the Hirose range to have top and bottom contacts allowing the FPC/FFC to be inserted with the contact surface facing up or down offering flexibility in the design layout. Special spring contacts are utilised that allow the contact point to follow the movement of the FPC which ensures high contact reliability and excellent FPC retention forces.
Starting on the 21st May, Silica’s Peter Carr and Laurence Dellicott will cycle over 750km across Britain to raise €40,000 for the Neuroblastoma Alliance and Alzheimer’s Research.
The ‘Pedal4Innovation’ journey passes through 7 universities en route where it will drop off 100 leading edge board innovation packs to participating students. These students will be competing to develop the most innovative project using the development boards and to win payment of their final year’s university tuition fees.
Sponsors include: Avnet, Xilinx, Intel Embedded, Maxim, NXP, Renesas, Microchip, ST and Texas Instruments.

The unique shape of the contacts fully supports the back flip actuator axle during rotation making it more secure and exceptionally durable. The housing entry has a wider opening to allow for easy FPC insertion; additionally it is delivered in the open position to further reduce the assembly time for the user.
The connector is easy to mount on the board with double sided contacts and metal fittings to ensure stability and maximum retention to the board. Space saving is achieved with a short mounting depth of only 3.45mm and 1.2mm height profile. There is no exposure of contacts at the bottom of the connector due to the fully covered molding structure allowing PCB patterning on the board underneath the connector. Solder wicking is prevented with special nickel barrier areas on the contacts. The contact sizes currently available are 25, 27, 29, 33, 39, 45, 51 & 67. Ideal applications are LCD displays, digital cameras, PDA’s, POS terminals and many other small portable devices.
