SENSORS IRS-B series PIR sensors

Aimed at a wide range of motion detection security, smart home appliances and intelligent energy saving applications, Murata’s IRS and IRA series of pyroelectric infrared (PIR) sensors are available as a surface mount or through-hole leaded package. The IRS-B series offers dual and quad type surface mount PIR sensors and the range comprises three models, IRS-B210ST01, IRS-B340ST02 and IRS-B345ST03. Measuring just 4.7 x 4.7 x 2.4 mm, these extremely small devices offer high sensitivity and signal to noise ratio, high stability against temperature changes and low power consumption. Typical field of view (FOV) is approximately 70 degrees vertical and up to

50 degrees horizontal. Capable of being powered by a 2 to 15 VDC supply, these sensors provide a cost effective method of waking up a consumer appliance, such as a television, photo frame or intelligent room lighting, from an energy saving standby mode to normal operation once human movement has been detected. The dual sensor IRS-B210ST01 is suited to general-purpose human movement detection on a single axis where there are large amounts of target movement. In contrast, the quad package IRS-B340ST02 is capable of detection across 2 axes more suited to smaller amounts of slower human movement. The IRS-B345ST03 device also has the capability of detecting minor motion such as a waving hand or head. The through hole leaded IRA-E700ST0 dual type PIR sensor provides engineers a design alternative to its surface mount counterparts. Measuring 9.2 mm in diameter and 4.7 mm in height excluding leads, it is available in two versions. The IRA-E710ST0 variant has enhanced

immunity to radio frequency interference by the internal composition of decoupling capacitors. Field of view is from the top of the package and is typically 45 degrees. Operating temperature is in the range – 40 to + 70 degrees C.

MA40 series ultrasonic sensors

Murata’s comprehensive sensor product line- up includes the MA40 family of short-range ultrasonic-based ceramic sensors. Measuring just 10 mm in diameter and 7.1 mm high, the MA40S4R receiver and MA40S4S transmitter sensors have an open structure construction and are compact and light weight. They are suitable for a broad range of indoor applications such as distance measuring tools, automatic control of toys and robotic equipment, and home or office security burglar alarm sensors. The MA40S4R receiver has a high

sensitivity of typically - 63 dB to within +/- 3dB and a detection aperture of 80 degrees. The matching MA40S4S transmitter emits up to 120 dB sound pressure level at its nominal operating frequency of 40 kHz when

when measured at 50 VDC. Load capacitance is 2,550 pF +/- 20% typical at 1 kHz. In addition to the ultrasonic sensors,

driven with a maximum 20 V peak to peak continuous signal. The detectable range is typically in the order of 0.2 to 4 metres, the exact distance depends on a variety of circuit parameters. Operating temperature is within the range of – 40 degrees C to + 85 degrees C and 45% to 60% relative humidity. The sensor has 100 Mohm minimum insulation resistance,

Murata has developed a wide range of sensing technologies using piezoelectric ceramics and magnetic resistive elements. They can detect heat, infrared, vibration, acceleration, angular velocity, angular rotation, rotation, magnetism and electrical fields. These products are used in a variety of applications such as white goods, audio/visual electronics and especially automotive, to name a few, and will improve the users experience and ease of use.
