33 IWEX 2012 PREVIEW
Powering down at this year’s Sustainabilitylive!
Why stick to water when visiting IWEX? Visitors also get free access to the show’s parent event Sustainabilitylive!, which includes the National Energy Management Exhibition (NEMEX), Sustainable Business – The Event (SB), Environmental Technology (ET) and the Brownfield Expo.
NEMEX features the latest advances in renewable energy products, energy management systems, and energy efficient technologies. The water industry is no different from other businesses and is under increasing pressure to review and reduce their energy usage. NEMEX 2012 provides an opportunity
for business leaders to explore and identify the very latest solutions, and find helpful advice and support. The organisers promise it will provide a cross-sector platform, bringing together the energy executives and decision-makers tasked with shaping the UK business approach to carbon reduction and energy volatility. An extensive seminar programme supports the event featuring presentations on renewable technologies, energy management, domestic water and energy saving solutions across two theatre spaces.
CRC focus
Water companies engaged in the CRC (Carbon Reduction Commitment) for large energy users will appreciate seminar sessions at both NEMEX and SB on 24 May. Eddie Proffitt of the Major Energy Users’ Council chairs a session at 10.15am on 24 May in Energy Theatre 1, with an opening presentation from Tony Cocker, the chief executive of E.ON UK.
Delegates at last year’s SB - The Event
In the afternoon, SB also features a session on the CRC, chaired by Jane Dennett-Thorpe, head of the CRC Team at the Department of Energy & Climate Change. The importance of
the corporate sustainability agenda is growing as businesses come to grips with spiralling operational costs and stricter environmental regulations. Water plays its part and a session on water efficiency strategies, chaired by Jacob Tompkins, managing director of Waterwise is also part of the SB conference on 22 May. Gerry O’Hagan, global technical director of Diageo; Dax Lovegrove, head of business & industry for the WWF, and Ben Earl, environmental affairs manager, B&Q will all share their experiences. SB also plays host to the popular Cleantech Crucible event on 23 May, which returns for a second year. This is a chance for developers of the very latest innovations in carbon, energy, water and waste technologies to showcase their products in a Dragon’s Den-style platform. Chaired by Piers Clark of Isle Utilities, last year’s event was a highlight of Sustainabilitylive! and attracted a number of water industry technologies. The organisers are anticipating a lively and highly competitive session. The shared interest in the field of carbon reduction especially makes it increasingly relevant for visitors to the NEC on 22-24 May to come out of their silos and explore the whole show.
Don’t waste money with waste water
Unlike the Royal Mint, you probably don’t actually manufacture money!
Yet using Neutralac® SLS45, the strongest available liquid lime, could save you more than just money.
The production team at The Royal Mint, and their advisors, recognise the benefits of using Neutralac® SLS45 in place of Caustic Soda in their effluent treatment, both commercially and for meeting increasingly tighter environmental discharge standards for metals removal and sulphates.
Stable prices for easier budgeting; reduced reagent costs; a far safer Alkali on site; environmental compliance – Neutralac® SLS45 is on the money!
