Peter Hopton Iceotope’s Chief Technical Officer

QFavourite food?

A I’m a big fan of food and my favourite is sushi – nothing like some decent Maki rolls with lots of tobikko

QFavourite film?

A I’m a Sci-Fi nut and it would have to be Serenity by Joss Wheadon, although I think the Firefly series was cooler.

QFavourite music? A Torn between AC/DC and Kings of Leon, depending on my mood. QAny pets?

A I have two cats – one convincingly behaves like a dog, and the other doesn’t know any better and follows her around.

QWhat are your hobbies?

A I enjoy hopping on stage with random cover bands whilst travelling and impersonating Kings of Leon and Jon Bon Jovi.

QGoing out or staying in?

A I’m a going out kinda person – Havanna Club and Diet Coke, one slice of lime.

QSocial networking – good or bad? A Good for business, bad for privacy – but who needs privacy? QConsumerisation of IT – good or bad?

A Good from the perspective of the diversity of communications and the knowledge it brings into our lives. Bad from the perspective of the multitude of devices everyone now ‘has to have’ and the cost and waste that results.

QCloud – good or bad?

A Cloud definition – the commoditisation of everything IBM has been doing for 40 years – this has to be good. It’s reduced the barriers to entry for having good IT systems in business and may challenge the dominance of giants, it’s now all to play for!

QYour job – the good? A Applying creativity and innovation to a product and seeing it born. QYour job – the bad? A Staying organised with so much to do. QOther than your own, one ICT company to watch?

A Xyratex – the billion dollar hardware vendor you never hear about, but it’s everywhere.

QFavourite business saying/mission statement? A (in evangelist priest style) Ain’t no presentation, without caffination. QThe plug – what’s so good about your company?

A Iceotope use liquid cooling to the component level with clever engineering to deliver the experience a data centre and server operator expects, plus a step change in the economics of data centres. Iceotope’s system can result in a reduction of cooling power costs of up to 97% and it makes it possible to reuse the hot water from the cooling process.

QYou finally retire, what next?

A I’ll turn into Doc out of Back to the Future (without the hair) and build a time machine.
